Pre-K Weekly Insight

Dear Parents,

Pre-k’s had a nice week of learning through play. Coming back from fall break we were all happy and energetic. The teachers took two days from the break to update ourselves on topics like, lesson planning, taking better observations and held a discussion on high scope curriculum.

We said good-bye to one of our Pre-k friends this week; Fiona went back to her other country Finland to welcome her baby sister. We are going to miss you and hope it’s a safe journey. We can’t wait to meet the new member of the family.

We also are going miss Leon he will be traveling and will come back to join us next year.

school will be closed on the 20th of November for Maulid celebration.

Our Small Group Exploration,

Monday: Science

We continued our exploration on our five senses. We discuses about our five senses that are Hearing, Smell, Touch, Sight and Taste. We took turns to talk about what each of our senses mean, what they do and where we find them in our body. After identifying the five senses, we planed to use our senses to make observation about materials and our environment.

By the end of this exploration we hope to know what our five senses are, what they do and how they help us with our everyday live and also we will carry on the activity by comparing/contrasting items or pictures based on senses or sensory cues and use our vocabulary to explain the similarity and the differences.

Tuesday: project planning

We took our math exploration day to make plans with the kindergartens about our upcoming new ‘ocean and beach center’ we discuss how we can build our center, what materials we need and where to have the center too. They brought so many ideas to the table and we are so excited to share every step with you as the project continues.

Wednesday: Literacy

We enjoy our tracing activity! As a teacher I believe Before we write there are many other skills that need to be in place such as eye-hand coordination, fine motor development with pour hands, fine motor control of our fingers and more! So this Wednesday we challenged ours selves with tracing letters and also lines.

Thursday: Library

The Pre-k’s love their library time! We love to go over the books in the library to read and also tell our own story by looking at some pictures from the books. It is also a time for us to check out new books and return old ones.

Friday: Journal

Journal day is a time for all of us to take our time to write, draw and scribble our stories. They enjoy taking turns to listen to some real and some interesting imaginative stories. We took some time to ask questions and make comments and suggestions on our journals.
