A Week Full of Love, Family, and Joyful Discoveries
Large Group
What a heartwarming way to begin our week! During large group time, we talked about one of our very favorite topics: families. We placed all of our children’s family pictures on the board, and their faces lit up the moment they spotted their loved ones. Little fingers pointed proudly at mommies, daddies, siblings, and grandparents, and many children happily shared stories about the special people in their lives. It was truly a joy to watch. Afterwards, we sang our Good Morning Song and Weather Song together and counted our friends to see who had come to school. We peeked outside to observe the weather, and our children took turns placing the arrow on the matching weather picture. These sweet moments helped our children practice communicating, feel connected to one another, and shine with pride in the families who love them so much.
Gymnastics: Following the Line
Our gymnastics session was full of wiggles, giggles, and wonderful movement! We warmed up by walking, running, and stretching our bodies, and then our children practiced walking along three different lines while guiding a ball with their hands. Each child had a turn, one at a time, so everyone could move at their own comfortable pace. Some children carefully steered the ball all the way along the line, while others held a teacher’s hand for a little extra support and balance, and every single step was worth celebrating. Through this activity, our children strengthened their gross motor skills, coordination, concentration, and body control. They practiced following a path and keeping their balance, and we loved seeing their confidence grow as they made it from one end of the line to the other with big, proud smiles. It was a fun and joyful way for our little ones to explore movement and discover how strong and capable they are.
Our Family Day Project: Creating Our Family Houses
Excitement is building as Family Day gets closer! After gathering all of our family pictures, we began a very special project: creating our own family houses. Our children started by choosing the paper they liked best and cutting it with scissors to make the roof. Then they picked out square pieces of paper and glued them below the roof to build their houses. Cutting can be a little tricky for small hands, so our teachers were right there to gently support and encourage each child along the way, cheering on every snip. This project gave our children a lovely chance to practice their fine motor skills, express their creativity, and make something meaningful to represent the families they love. We can’t wait to share these beautiful creations with you on Family Day!
The Final Touches on Our Family Houses
As Family Day draws near, our children lovingly added the final touches to their family houses. We used loose parts to create the roofs and placed each child’s family picture inside, so every house is now home to the people who matter most. To gather materials for the roofs, our children headed outside with plates in hand, ready for a little treasure hunt in nature. Some chose soft sand, others collected colorful leaves, and a few excitedly gathered both! Each child explored and chose materials that spoke to them, making every roof as unique as the child who made it. This activity encouraged creativity, decision-making, and curiosity while strengthening fine motor skills. Our children were so proud to be part of this special project, and we look forward to welcoming you and sharing their beautiful family houses with you on Family Day!
Ethiopian Center
We had a wonderful session at the Ethiopian Center, where our children had the opportunity to explore different Ethiopian cultural materials. They enjoyed looking at and learning about the different items, trying on traditional clothes, and dancing to traditional Ethiopian songs.
