Dear parents,
We hope this message finds you well! This week in Pre-K was filled with exciting hands-on learning, creativity, and lots of joyful moments. Our students were actively engaged in meaningful experiences that encouraged teamwork, curiosity, problem-solving, and early literacy and math skills. From exciting science experiments and fun number games to baking delicious cookies and practicing name writing, every activity gave students the opportunity to learn through play and exploration. We are so proud of their enthusiasm, participation, and growing confidence throughout the week. Here is a look at some of the wonderful learning experiences we enjoyed together!
Happy Birthday Ruaansh!
Large group
On Monday, students enjoyed gathering together to share about their weekend experiences. Many excitedly talked about how the art auction went, especially those who attended, and proudly shared which canvases they brought home. It was wonderful to hear students recalling and discussing their special experiences with friends. Students also had an engaging discussion about cookies, where they talked about how cookies are baked and shared ideas about the ingredients needed to make them. This helped build their communication skills while connecting to our literacy activity for the week.
To keep strengthening their number skills, students completed a fun board activity where they practiced identifying which number comes before. They also learned three new sight words: get, if, and did, and enjoyed practicing and recognizing them throughout the day.
In math, students continued revising both 2D and 3D shapes, building confidence in identifying and discussing their features. As the month of May is almost coming to an end, students were excitedly counting down the days and talking about the upcoming new month.
Every morning, students eagerly checked their classroom responsibilities to see what their jobs for the day would be, showing responsibility and excitement in contributing to the classroom community. They also enjoyed singing their favorite songs together, bringing lots of joy and energy to our days!
Literacy
This week in literacy, our students were very excited to take part in a fun and meaningful cookie-baking activity! Before heading outside to bake, we gathered together and discussed the ingredients needed to make cookies. Students eagerly shared their ideas and recalled different ingredients that might be used.
Once outside, we worked together to mix the ingredients, starting with the liquid ingredients and then adding the solid ones. After preparing the dough, each student received a piece and had the opportunity to shape it into the letters of their name. This was a fun and engaging way to practice name writing while strengthening letter recognition and fine motor skills.
Later during work time, students happily enjoyed eating their homemade cookies while recalling and talking about the different letters they had made and eaten. It was a joyful literacy experience that combined learning, creativity, and lots of fun!
Math
This week in math, our students had lots of fun while learning through engaging hands-on activities!
During our first math session, students enjoyed an exciting number game. Each child picked a different number and then worked together to order themselves according to the numbers they received. This activity encouraged students to recognize and compare numbers while also promoting cooperation, communication, and teamwork as they helped one another find the correct order.
In our second math session, we took learning outdoors for some exciting water fun while revisiting numbers 1–5. Students took turns flipping a number card, and the number they picked determined how many cups of water they had to pour from a bucket into another container. For example, if a student picked number 3, they carefully poured 3 cups of water. The students continued taking turns until all the water was used up. This playful activity helped strengthen number recognition, counting skills, turn-taking, and cooperation while making learning fun and interactive.
Science
This week in science, our students enjoyed an exciting fizzing experiment! We prepared baking soda, vinegar, and food coloring and invited students to explore and predict what might happen when the baking soda was added to the vinegar. Many students excitedly recalled that they had seen a similar reaction during our volcano experiment and eagerly shared their observations.
Students also had the opportunity to choose the food color they wanted for their own fizzing experiment, making the activity even more engaging and personal. They were very excited to watch the fizzy reaction as the colorful substances bubbled and overflowed from the cups. This hands-on experiment encouraged curiosity, observation skills, prediction-making, and scientific thinking while creating a fun and memorable learning experience.
Art
This week in art, the Pre-K class got busy on an exciting, sensory art activity- painting with ice! Since the school year is almost over, we’ve been focusing on hands-on, active sessions to end our year on an interactive note! The day before the art session, we prepared the ice, and the next day the children used it to create their artwork. Since the weather has been quite hot, we completed the activity outside in the grass area. The children took turns each child waited for their turn and then painted one at a time while others played. They also did free painting with the ice using different colors, and the results were beautiful.
