From Letters to Healthy Foods: A Week of Learning!
Dear parents,
We hope this blog finds you well! Our week in Pre-K was filled with exciting learning adventures, including counting, letters, science, and art. The children had a wonderful time exploring new concepts, participating in hands-on activities, and learning through play. Let’s take you through some of the highlights from our week…
Large group
This week, our large group sessions were filled with fun activities and learning experiences. We started each day with our daily calendar alongside our Calendar Helpers and revised the letters we have learned so far. We also introduced six new letters: g,o,u,l,f and b.
We explored 3D shapes by revising the sphere and cone and introducing two new shapes: the cube and cylinder. We also continued working with our caterpillar numbers, practicing counting and writing numbers.
The children enjoyed participating in the activities and sharing stories about their weekend experiences with their friends.
Science
This week in science, we learned about healthy food and how it helps us stay healthy and strong. In our first session, we discussed what healthy food is food that is good for our bodies and explored different types of healthy foods, such as fruits, vegetables, milk, and meat.
The children also shared their favorite healthy foods and talked about what they had for their snacks and lunch. They enjoyed sharing their ideas and talking about the different foods they eat.
In our second session, we reviewed healthy food in the classroom before heading outside to our compound. We enjoyed exploring and tasting different fruits and vegetables, giving the children an opportunity to try a variety of foods. They also enjoyed naming the different foods and discussing why they are healthy.
Math
This week in Math, we continued working with numbers 1-20. We first revised numbers 1–10 and then continued identifying numbers 11–20. Everyone had the opportunity to count and identify different numbers, including random numbers called out during the activity.
In our second session, we revised the numbers and practiced tracing 11-20. The children enjoyed working with their pencils and practicing their number formation.
Literacy
This week in literacy, we revised the letters we have previously learned and practiced matching them with pictures that have the same beginning sounds. The children also enjoyed noticing when their friends’ names began with one of the letters we had learned and identifying the corresponding letter. They also had fun creating their own new words using beginning sounds.
We introduced our new letters: g,o,u,f,l, and b We explored their sounds, practiced their corresponding Zoo Phonics actions, and listened to the related Zoo Phonics stories.
In our second session, we revised the letters and practiced tracing the new ones. This gave the children an opportunity to strengthen their letter recognition and practice correct letter formation.
Art
This week in art, our Pre-K class had so much fun exploring the creative world of collage! We started by going outside and collecting different materials from nature, as well as gathering interesting items from the art room. The children were encouraged to choose anything they liked and use their imaginations to create something new.
It was wonderful to see how creatively they used different materials, combining textures, shapes, and colors to create their own unique collages. They were excited to experiment, create, and turn simple materials into something special.
