Kindergarteners Twelfth Week of Wonders: Fun, Learning, and Creativity!

Dear Family,

How have you been? We’ve had an absolutely awesome week filled with excitement and joy! From a multitude of learning moments to playful adventures, let’s take you through all the fun!

Large Group

As always, our large group sessions were engaging, educational, and most of all, a blast! This week, we revisited digraphs, explored the four seasons, journeyed through the eight planets, and traveled across the seven continents. It was amazing to see how our little learners could explain these concepts with confidence! As if that wasn't enough, we also introduced them to new digraphs that will further fuel their reading superpowers. Plus, we incorporated some small group activities on the big board, where we practiced rewriting sentences and adding numbers. What a way to learn together!

Literacy

In our literacy sessions, we've been focusing on a fun new way to form words – by sounding them out first! We gave our young writers the chance to come up with their own CVC words and share them with the class. This created an amazing learning vibe, and then they blasted off into a paper activity where they had a chance to write the words themselves, practicing their sound-it-out skills. In our second literacy adventure, we took it to the next level, where our children read simple sentences, tracing and rewriting them with pride. It’s clear that their interest in reading and writing is blossoming, as evidenced by the neat and tidy work they produced!

Math

This week in math, we practiced addition in fun and varied ways. We used counting dots worksheets and traditional number addition. The kids got creative, adding “nine in my mind” and “two in my hand”. They even tried the tally method by drawing sticks under the numbers to find totals! These activities helped us see how our students are doing in math and what we should prepare for our future lessons.

Science

We started our science week with watering the beans that the children planted in a plastic bag with cotton last week. Then we delved into the fascinating world of shadows with our topics “What is a Shadow?” and “Exploring Shadows Pt. 2.” The children were captivated by how shadows are formed simply by blocking light! During our first activity, we used a flashlight in a dim room, allowing everyone to take turns holding the flashlight or creating shadows with their hands. Their creativity shone through as they formed different shapes! For our second activity, we stepped outside to explore shadows with “Mr. Sun” as our light source. Our children traced and measured their shadows using the measuring tape from our math class, turning learning into a playful experience. We even played a game where everyone tried to step on their own shadows, adding a layer of fun to observation.

Art

This week in art, our students got to paint with balloons! We put a pom-pom inside the balloons, tied them, and turned them inside out, creating beautiful flower-like patterns. Our young artists went wild with creativity, and even asked to add glitter, it transformed their artwork into dazzling pieces that looked like fireworks! The results were truly galactic!

Gymnastics

This week in our gymnastics session, we invited a guest trainer, Tesfaye, from the Admin team. He trained our children in a fun and engaging way. Our children had a blast with some acrobatic training, and they thanked him at the end. It was a wonderful moment!

Cooperative Game: KG Karaoke!

For our cooperative game this week, we held a karaoke party! Our students got introduced to the magic of microphones and had a chance to try them out during our large group. For the actual cooperative activity, we all sat on the mat and took turns singing our favorite songs. The mic gave it an amazing, amplified vibe, and our little superstars shone brightly!
