Dear Parents,
We are excited to share our wonderful weekly learning highlights! Take a moment to read about the fun, learning, creativity, and special experiences our children enjoyed this week.
Large group
In our Large Group session, we started by sitting together in a big circle and talking about our morning. We asked the students what they had for breakfast and encouraged them to share their thoughts and ideas one by one. After our morning conversation, we sang our Good Morning Song, which helped everyone feel happy and ready to learn.
Next, we talked about the weather and the days of the week. The students enjoyed singing our weather song and days-of-the-week song together. After that, we read the book First Day of School. The story was about starting school and what children can experience on their first day. The students listened carefully and showed great interest in the story. They also shared their own experiences, thoughts, and ideas related to the book. It was a wonderful and meaningful session. Giving the students time to speak and listen to each other helped build their confidence, communication skills, and ability to express their ideas.
Small group activities
Math
In our math session, we had a wonderful time exploring body counting! The students counted different parts of their bodies while touching and identifying each one. We had a lovely conversation about how many eyes, ears, hands, fingers, and other body parts we have. The students participated enthusiastically and communicated their ideas very well. When we asked questions such as, “How many eyes do you have?” they confidently counted and shared their answers with the group. We also sang a fun body-counting song, which made the activity even more enjoyable. The students followed along, moved their bodies, and counted together with excitement.
Ethiopian Center
We had a wonderful time visiting the Ethiopian Center! The students learned about Ethiopian traditional materials and clothes, and each child chose their favorite traditional outfit to wear. They enjoyed pretend play by making coffee and preparing traditional food. The students were happy, engaged, and participated very well. We also listened to traditional Ethiopian songs and danced together. The students proudly showed us some Ethiopian traditional dances. It was a fun and memorable experience for everyone!
Art
In our art session, we had a wonderful time creating colorful handprint art. First, we asked the students about their favorite colors, and each student chose their own favorite color. We then provided paint, paper, and art smocks for everyone.
One by one, the students put on their smocks, dipped their hands into the paint, and carefully placed their handprints onto the paper. Some students enjoyed mixing different colors to create beautiful and unique patterns.
Every student had a chance to participate, and they did a wonderful job! It was a fun, creative, and joyful art session filled with lots of colorful handprints and happy smiles.
Literacy
In our literacy session, we introduced the phonics letters A to Z, along with their sounds and actions. The students participated well and showed a good understanding as they began exploring and learning the letters.
After practicing the letters, we enjoyed singing our phonics letter song together. The students sang along with enthusiasm and enjoyed making the actions. We then provided different letters for the students to explore and play with, giving them an opportunity to recognize and become familiar with the letters.
It was a fun and engaging session, and the students enjoyed learning through singing, movement, and play.
Library
During our library session, we read a wonderful book called First Day of School. The story followed the character through his first day at school, from his morning routine until home time. Our students listened carefully and showed great attention and focus throughout the story. After reading the book, we talked about their own morning routines and asked what they do in the morning before coming to school. The students enjoyed sharing their ideas and experiences. Then, the students explored a variety of books with their friends. They chose their favorite books, sat together, and enjoyed looking through the pages and discovering new stories. Finally, we visited the library, where each student chose a book to take home. It was a lovely and enjoyable library session filled with stories, sharing, and exploration!
Journal
During our journal activity, we talked with the students about what they would like to draw. Each student had a chance to share their ideas with the group. We then provided paper and crayons, and the students enjoyed creating their own drawings.
Afterward, everyone had an opportunity to explain their drawings and share their ideas and thoughts with their friends and teachers. It was a wonderful time of creativity, self-expression, and sharing!
