Dear parents,
We hope you have had a wonderful week. We are delighted to share some highlights from the Preschool class’s week of engaging learning experiences from large group discussions, math, literacy, gymnastics, and creative art activities. Thank you for your continuous support and partnership in your child’s learning journey!
Large group
In our large group session, we sat together in a big circle and started by singing our good morning song. After that, we asked the students about their morning routines and gave everyone a chance to share their thoughts and experiences. Next, we reviewed our Zoo phonics letters together with their sounds and actions. We also discussed the day’s weather, talked about the days of the week, and took attendance during our message board time. Later, we had a wonderful discussion about the moon, the color of the night sky, and the stars. The students shared many creative ideas and thoughts, and everyone enjoyed listening to each other. It was a meaningful and engaging learning time for both the teachers and students.
Small group sessions
Math
In our math session, the children explored AABB patterns using different materials such as markers, pencils, colored plastic blocks, and soft blocks. It was a fun and engaging learning experience for all. The students enjoyed creating and recognizing patterns, and they worked very well together. Some students were also interested in making AB patterns on their own. It was a wonderful active learning time filled with creativity, thinking, and hands-on exploration.
Gymnastics
During our gymnastics session, we started with different warm-up activities such as walking, jogging, stretching, and running around the room to prepare our bodies for movement. After warming up, we began the day’s activity, which focused on stretching and balancing using both hands and feet. In this activity, the students carefully placed their hands and feet on the colored spots while lifting their bodies up. They practiced balancing, body control, coordination, and strengthening their muscles. The students took turns one by one and tried their best to follow the movements correctly. Everyone was very engaged, active, and excited throughout the session.
Literacy
In our literacy session, the students did a beginning sound matching activity. First, we sat together and reviewed all the Zoo phonics letters with their names, sounds, and actions. After that, we placed the letters on the mat and provided different items in a box. Each student chose an item and matched it with the correct beginning sound letter. This week, we focused on matching letters A to M. The students were very excited, engaged, and participated actively throughout the activity. They did an amazing job identifying the beginning sounds and matching the items correctly. Finally, we ended our session by singing the Zoo phonics letter song together. It was a fun, educational, and enjoyable learning experience for everyone.
Art
In our art session, we created our 7th canvas, a beautiful art piece all about the moon. This art idea came from our students after we had a discussion about the moon, the stars, and the color of the sky at night time. First, the students mixed dark blue and black paint to create the night sky background. Then, using sponges, they painted the background on the canvas turn by turn.
After that, we cut out a moon shape from paper and stuck it onto the canvas. The students carefully painted the moon yellow by following the shape and space. Finally, they added small and big stars using white paint. All the colors were chosen by the majority of our students, which made the artwork even more special and meaningful. It was a wonderful and creative art experience, and we loved the final artwork so much.
