Dear Family,
We hope you are all doing well! We had a wonderful week filled with discovery, learning, and joyful moments. Happy Ethiopian Good Friday! We hope you enjoy the long weekend with your little ones. Let us take you through each session and give you a glimpse into our days at school.
Happy Birthday Kian! We love you!
Large Group
Alongside our usual large group routines; weekend sharing, setting up the date, practicing our daily sight words, and helping our number caterpillar grow. This week, we continued our exciting journey into the world of inventions by learning about some amazing inventors and their creations. We talked about Thomas Edison, who invented the light bulb and helped bring light into homes, making it easier for people to see in the dark. We also learned about Alexander Graham Bell, who invented the telephone; something we still use today to talk to people who are far away! Lastly, we explored the story of the Wright brothers, who invented the first airplane. We were amazed to learn how they made it possible for people to fly in the sky like birds! Our children were very curious and excited, asking questions and sharing their thoughts about these inventions. We look forward to continuing our invention journey next week with more fun discoveries!

Literacy
This week, we focused on writing in a very special and meaningful way; it was “Letters to Dad” week! Since our children had previously written letters to their moms, they were excited to now create something just for their dads. They began their letters with “Dear Dad” and shared their thoughts, feelings, and little fun and thoughtful messages in their own unique ways. To wrap it up, they ended with “Love” and their name, making each letter extra special and personal.
“I will ask my dad the same thing I asked my mom last time” -Liyat
“Me and Betselot same, Temsgen Temsgen” -Yemariam
“I’ll tell my dad to buy me Rolando” -Ismael
“I want big dinosaur Lego for my birthday” -Samuel
Math
This week, we were introduced to number lines, and our children quickly picked up the concept. After exploring how number lines work, they created their own on white paper; some counting all the way to 20, while others went up to 10. It was wonderful to see their confidence and effort in building their own learning tools. In our second session, our children used their handmade number lines to solve addition worksheets. By jumping along the number line, they were able to find their answers quickly and with excitement. We look forward to continuing with number lines next week and practicing more, especially with subtraction.
“If I jump three times from 17 it will be over cause I only write until 20” -Leul
“This is super easy. After this if my mom asks me to do addition I’ll draw a number line like this and I will do it fast” -Solomon
Science
We returned to our human anatomy exploration this week and wrapped up our learning with some important organs of the body. Since we had already covered the brain and heart in our previous sessions, our children were excited to continue building on what they already knew. In our first session, we learned about the liver and the lungs. Our children discovered that the liver helps clean our body and keep it healthy, while the lungs help us breathe by taking in fresh air and giving our body oxygen. In our second session, we explored the stomach and the kidneys. We learned that the stomach helps break down the food we eat so our body can use it, and the kidneys help filter out waste and keep our body balanced. To bring all our learning together, our children enjoyed an activity where they cut out different body organs and placed them in the correct positions on a human body outline. This helped them better understand where each organ belongs.
Art
This week, we explored silhouette art, a style of art where we see the shape or outline of an object (usually in dark color) against a bright or colorful background. It’s like seeing a shadow that tells us what the picture is! Our children chose animals or their favorite things to draw on paper. They carefully cut out their drawings and placed them onto dark paper using tape. Then came the fun part; they painted all around their shapes using bright, beautiful colors. Once the paint dried, they gently peeled off their cutouts to reveal their silhouette artwork. The results were amazing! Each piece was unique, creative, and absolutely beautiful. We’re also excited to turn this into our next canvas art project. We can’t wait to gather more ideas, bring them to life, and share the final masterpieces with you all!
“I want to make a heart silhouette” -Liyat
“I want to draw a house with lots of windows and cut them all out” -Solomon
“I want to make a Dino and make the background green like grass” -Samuel
Cooperative Game
This week, our class of scientists participated in something extra special: they got an inside look on the way lights work. With hard work, close focus, and dedication, our children made their very own circuits and got to have a literal lightbulb moment! Seeing their faces when the lights came on was truly heartwarming and special. We are so proud of their curiosity, dedication and cooperation!
