Dear family,

We hope all is well on everyone’s side. Our Kindergarteners are truly growing in every way possible. From becoming more fluent readers to turning into little hunters and explorers, there’s nothing they don’t approach with happiness, curiosity, and enthusiasm.

Large Group

Our usual weekend sharing time was extra fun this week, especially as two of our kinders attended the same birthday party and many others spent quality time outdoors with their families. Alongside our regular routines, we continued strengthening our reading skills through a fun activity called “Pick and Read.” We prepared a word box filled with sight word cards, and each day our children took turns picking a card and reading the words written on both sides. Afterward, we all read the words together as a class. This activity made reading feel exciting and playful while helping our Kinders become more familiar and confident with many sight words.

“Saturday morning I got ready to go to Milli’s house and mommy and daddy bought a present for Millie and we went to her house. In Millie’s house I saw a sand with lots of diamonds and I played with Liyat and we both got lots of diamonds and ate sausage with Liyat and we got a new tshirt” - Lubono

“My daddy came back from Sudan before yesterday for Mother’s Day and we surprised my mom and gave her a present. And also I went to Millie’s house and saw Lubono there we played hunting diamonds and Millie cried when we leave even Dada was there but Nai didn’t come” -Liyat

“I was at church and we were praying to God and I saw Elliot and I played with him right after that I said happy Mother’s Day to my mom and it was also her birthday” - Kian

“My mommy said you go with Betselot birthday and we eat one by one we eat cake. And I play with ball with Betselot” -Yemariam

“My mommy said number one cake and we play goal and I eat pizza” -Betselot

“My uncle was at home so played with him cause my mom went to work and after that I watched iPad and I went to my secret room and played a secret game. My secret room has lots of pillows and water. When I was about to sleep my mommy came” -Yadon

“I go to sky light and I go to Bora and also I played football and basketball” -Ismael

Literacy

Continuing from last week’s adjective lessons, we spent this week strengthening our understanding through different worksheets and activities. Our children practiced identifying and using adjectives in fun and simple ways, helping them better understand how describing words make sentences more interesting and meaningful. With each activity, they became more confident in recognizing and using adjectives in their everyday learning.

Math

In math, we continued strengthening our understanding of what comes before and after through fun missing number activities. In our first session, our children received worksheets filled with number sequences and fruit pictures in between. By looking carefully at the sequence, they figured out which numbers were missing and wrote the correct answers below according to the matching fruit picture. In our second session, we turned math into a game! Different fruit pictures with numbers were placed in a 3x3 square, while another empty square was provided beside it. Our children carefully observed the fruit numbers and wrote the correct matching numbers into the empty boxes. These activities made number sequencing more exciting.

Science

Our science sessions were especially exciting this week; even bringing out the inner child in us teachers as we searched and explored alongside our Kinders! In our first session, we revisited some of the lessons we’ve previously covered, including states of matter, living and non living things, and vertebrates and invertebrates, since our upcoming activity connected to all of them. We also discussed what a scavenger hunt is; a fun activity where we search for different objects or items from a list. In our next science session, our children received a nature scavenger hunt checklist filled with different things to find outdoors. They explored around the compound, searching carefully and checking off the items they discovered. We managed to find almost everything except mushrooms and a snail. At the end of the session, we gathered together, observed what we had found, and talked about the things we couldn’t locate. Together, we agreed to continue searching outside of school; at home or on the way home.

Art

Our 7th art project was finally completed this week; “Planets!” This was one of the very first project ideas chosen when we sat together to discuss future artworks, and our kinders had been patiently waiting to bring it to life. They began by painting the background dark purple to create a beautiful space effect. Then came one of their favorite parts; sprinkling white paint across the canvas to look like stars in the galaxy. After tracing circles for the planets, each child chose a planet to paint, while one of our children proudly created the moon. The final artworks turned out absolutely beautiful, and we truly cannot wait for you all to see them during our annual Art Auction Day!

Cooperative Game (Brain exercise session)

This week, we worked on two fun and challenging brain exercise activities that encouraged focus, observation, and problem solving together. In the first activity, our children practiced direction matching by observing arrow directions and identifying how the cars were moving. It was exciting and playful while also helping strengthen concentration and visual thinking skills. In the second activity, our kinders followed color instructions to complete outline drawings by adding the correct arms based on the given colors. This required careful observation and attention to detail. These activities supported brain development in a fun and engaging way while teaching our children the importance of slowing down, focusing, and paying close attention; even during playful tasks.
