Blog For Pre k and kindergarten

Hello dear parents,

We hope you have enjoyed your week as much as we do. Our little friends always make our week wonderful. We play, learn, discuss, and laugh together!

Friendly reminder, we would like to remind you that we will be having spring break starting from March 6th -10th.

What did we do this week?

LARGE GROUP

CALENDAR – We count the date, day, and year always. We practiced the spelling of FEBRUARY too.

Caterpillar- Feeding our Hungry Caterpillar is one of the activities we do during our large group. It hits the 118th day of school this week.

“Oh, our caterpillar is getting longer”.

“We come to school for 118 days”.

“We are growing up like the caterpillar”.

Message board- the message board is where we answer the question of the day, practice writing our name and read our sight words.

Sight words- our little friends are very interested in reading the sight words. We did the sight words of the week “more, now, I, at, long “Amazingly our friends started making sentences using the sight words.

Discussion of the week- The top issue for this week in our large group was FOOTBALL. All our friends were in playing and talking about football.

“I know how to play football”?

“Me and my dad play football together”

“Football is my favorite”.

“I know Messy is a strong player”.

“Messy took the trophy”.

SMALL GROUP

LITERACY

Why is blending important? Blending is a crucial skill in learning to read since being able to mentally join speech sounds together to make words helps our little friends to decode unfamiliar words using letter-sound patterns when reading.

The pre-K friends were practicing blending the words “pat, mat, sat, fat, hat and cat” They were reading them and sticking them on a paper.

The kindergarten friends started reading small books with few sentences. Amazingly they were reading the books with no difficulties!

Some of our new friends were practicing the zoo-phonics in their small group. One of our kindergarten friends Eliab was helping our new friends to practice the zoo-phonics after he finished reading his small book. Thank you, Eliab!

Mathematics

Patterns help children make predictions because they begin to understand what comes next. They also help children learn how to make logical connections and use reasoning skills. Patterns can be found everywhere in our daily lives and should be pointed out to small children.

We did different patterns in our Mathematics session. Some friends make patterns using blocks, some make using spatula with different colors some make using the letter ABAB,ABBABB. All friends were excited making and reading the patterns!

Music and movement

Even though our schedule for Wednesday was having music and dance but our little friends changed it and made it a FOOTBALL DAY! Since Monday we were discussing and planning to have FOOTBALL match. Finally, we asked one of our friends Biruhe to be our coach and he said, “Sure I can coach you guys well”. We started the training this Wednesday with an amazing energy! All our friends were engaged and very eager in the activities! We practiced how to dribble a ball and kick it and then we teamed up two groups named “The cheetahs” and “The tigers” and finally we started playing the football and run to score goals! The school compound turned in to big stadium with full of noise and running for the ball! We all were super-duper excited! Thank you Biruhe our coach!

The training was finalized with making plans to have more practice and after having some training sessions, we will have a big FOOTBALL MATCH!!

JOURNAL

Children can express their want and need through drawing. We did our Journal session. The children drew their ideas and expressed it well.

Science

Gardening is our topic since last Friday. Last Friday we planted different plants. After discussing what plants need, we started watering them well!

“I want water the rosemary”.

“I can lift up the water can”.

“Plants need water, air and soil”.

“We can give water for the plants”.
