Dear Parents,
We hope you had a wonderful week! Here in Preschool, our week was full of wonderful learning experiences in both large and small group activities. Our students stayed engaged, excited, and curious every step of the way!
Large Group
We began each morning sitting together in a circle. The children shared about their mornings and then we sang our Good Morning Song. We enjoyed reading “The Grumpy Goat”, which everyone loved. Next, we practiced our Zoo-phonics letters A–Z, reviewed the days of the week, and talked about the weather. We also took our daily attendance. Our color-mixing activity for the week focused on how yellow plus blue becomes green. The children discussed why we mix colors. One student asked, “why do we need to mix colors?” and another insightfully replied, “to make a new color!”. Their participation and curiosity were a delight to see.
Small Group Activities
Science
This week in science, we explored flowers and their parts, from the roots,to the leaves, and petals. We talked about what plants need to grow: water, soil, and sunlight. We then went outside to observe real flowers. Some students helped water the plants and many asked if they could grow their own flowers. Their excitement about planting was wonderful to see, and we look forward to continuing to cultivate their curiosity on this topic in the coming weeks.
Music
In our music session, we introduced new instruments such as xylophones, maracas, shakers and more! The students were very happy and engaged as they explored the sounds and then sang songs together. It was a joyful session!
Math
In our math session, we worked on matching big and small shapes. Last week, students practiced measuring big and small objects by holding them. This week, they matched small shapes to their bigger pairs on worksheets and the whiteboard. Some students were so excited that they asked to start before the materials were even handed out!
Art
In our art session, we continued our color-mixing project. This week the children mixed yellow and blue to make green. After explaining the activity, we placed paint on each child’s palms and they rubbed their hands together to see the color change. Their excitement as they exclaimed “look! Green! Green!”—was priceless.
Library
In our library session, we read a story titled “The Grumpy Goat”. The story follows Poppy and Sam as they try to clean the goat’s shed, but the goat doesn’t want help. In the end, the grumpy goat becomes happy after she gets a little baby goat. After reading, the students chose their own favorite books to take home.
Cooperative game
This week in our cooperative game session, we played a lively “water- squeezing” competition that had everyone excited and fully engaged! We prepared two cups, sponges, and a bowl of water. The students took turns dipping their sponge into the water and then squeezing it into their cup. The first student to fill their cup with water became the winner! The children played in pairs, taking turns patiently and cheering for their friends. It was wonderful to see their teamwork, cooperation, and friendly competition.
This simple activity was not only fun but alsobeneficial in many ways. Squeezing the sponge helps strengthen fine motor skills, build hand–eye coordination, and develop the small muscles needed for writing and daily tasks. The children enjoyed the game a lot, and the classroom was filled with laughter and excitement. It was truly a fun and meaningful time for everyone!
Literacy
In our literacy session this week, we explored all the Zoophonics letters one by one, practicing each sound and action together. The children loved moving, repeating the sounds, and connecting the letters to their animal friends! After that, each student received the beginning letter of their name. Using glue and a variety of materials, including beads, seeds, sand, and colorful pom-poms, they decorated their special letter in their own creative way. The activity was full of fun and hands-on learning. The children stayed very focused, engaged, and proud of their beautiful work. It was a wonderful way to connect letter recognition with creativity and sensory play!
