Dear Parents,
We hope this blog finds you well! This week has been full of educational excitement. Read on to find highlights from our week, fun activities, and special moments your children enjoyed while learning and playing… We hope you enjoy reading and celebrating our wonderful week together!
Large Group
Our large group sessions have continued to be a joyful and engaging time for everyone. We sat together in a big circle and began by asking our students simple questions such as what they did in the morning, what they had for breakfast, and who brought them to school. Each child had a chance to speak while their friends listened patiently, helping them practice turn-taking and speaking skills. Next, we sang our cheerful Good Morning Song, which filled the room with smiles and energy. We then enjoyed reading the story “Hooray for Books!”, followed by reviewing our Zoophonics letters from A to Z with their sounds and actions. After that, we took attendance and talked about the days of the week and the day’s weather. To wrap up, we gathered around the message board and discussed different shapes: circle, triangle, square, and rectangle, along with their sides. It was truly a wonderful session where students practiced listening, speaking, focusing, and learning together in a happy environment!
Small Group Activities
Math
This week, our math session was full of excitement and hands-on learning as we explored different shapes. We learned about circles, squares, rectangles, and triangles, and talked together about how many sides each shape has. The students were very active and participated eagerly during our discussion.
One of the funniest moments was when we talked about the circle; the children happily shared that a circle has no sides and said, “It goes round and round!” This made everyone smile and laugh. After our group discussion, we moved on to a shape-matching activity on the whiteboard. One by one, the students came up and matched their favorite shapes, taking turns and cheering for their friends. This activity helped strengthen their shape recognition and confidence. It was a joyful and engaging math session for all.
Literacy
This week, our literacy session was hands-on for all students. We reviewed all the Zoophonics letters from A to Z using their sounds and motions. The students were excited to participate and confidently joined in with each letter. Afterward, we provided playdough and invited the students to trace their favorite letter. This hands-on activity helped strengthen their letter recognition and fine motor skills. All students were very focused, happy, and actively involved throughout the session. It was a wonderful literacy experience, and the session went very well!
Art
This week, our art session was full of creativity and imagination! We began by asking our students to plan what they wanted to draw on their canvas. They shared many wonderful ideas such as flowers, dinosaurs, houses, ice cream, cookies, and even drawings of their mommies. It was lovely to hear their thoughts and see how excited they were to talk about their plans. After our discussion, we provided each student with their favorite paintbrush and paper. They then started drawing their plans on paper. During this time, we observed their focus, creativity, and how they held and used their brushes. It was amazing to see how confident and engaged they were throughout the activity. The session was full of joy and smiles, and the students truly enjoyed expressing themselves through art.
Science
This week in our science session, we focused on sensory exploration, with a special focus on using our sense of sight. To make learning exciting and hands-on, we did a fun bubble experiment with our students. We mixed baking soda, vinegar, and different food colors, and the moment the ingredients came together, bubbles began to form! The students were so happy and excited to watch the colorful bubbles rise and move beautifully. Their faces lit up as they carefully observed the changes and reactions happening right in front of them. Not only did they enjoy watching the bubbles, but they also heard the bubbling sound, which made the experiment even more fun and engaging. It was a great opportunity for the children to explore, observe, and ask questions while using their senses. This activity brought lots of smiles, curiosity, and joy. It was truly a fun and memorable learning experience for everyone!
Library
This week, our library session was full of excitement and storytelling fun. We read a book called Hooray for Books! The story was about a turtle who couldn’t find her favorite book. Along the way, her friends—zebra, owl, elephant, and giraffe—tried their best to help her search for it. In the end, she happily found her book in the lion’s house. The students really enjoyed the story and listened attentively from beginning to end. They were engaged, curious, and excited to see how the story would end. After story time, the students chose their favorite books by themselves and began exploring them independently. It was wonderful to see their love for books and early reading skills growing.
