Dear parents,
We hope your week was filled with joy. Our Early Pre-K classroom buzzed with excitement, curiosity, and valuable learning opportunities. The children took part in a range of activities in science, art, and gymnastics, all carefully planned to nurture their development. Read on to discover the highlights that made your child’s week so special!
Large group
During our large group sessions this week, the children were introduced to the color black. They explored and identified it through pictures, classroom materials, and hands-on activities. We also revisited Zoo-phonics, where the children practiced recognizing letters and their beginning sounds using movement, sounds, and visual aids.
For the morning message, the children counted and wrote from 1 to 10 and practiced recognizing different numbers. In another engaging activity, we went on a classroom “black” hunt to find black objects. The children were enthusiastic and curious as they searched around the room and shared their findings with their peers. These experiences enhanced critical thinking, language development, attention to detail, and teamwork.
Science
This week in our science session, the children had an exciting hands-on experience learning about how we use our sense of taste. To deepen their understanding, we set up a tasting activity using four different items: salt, sugar, lemon, and apple. One by one, the children carefully tasted each item while we discussed how every taste is different. With each sample, they described what they tasted, ranging from “salty,” “sweet,” “sour,”. It was delightful to see their facial expressions change as they explored each flavor, especially when trying the lemon!
This activity directly connected to our lesson on how we use our tongue to taste. By actually experiencing different flavors, the children were able to link our classroom discussion to real-life sensations. They were eager to share their preferences with friends and compare which taste they liked the most. Through this engaging experience, the children strengthened their understanding of the sense of taste, practiced descriptive language and communication, developed curiosity and willingness to try new things. It was a joyful and meaningful learning moment filled with laughter, excitement, and discovery. We’re proud of how bravely they explored each taste!
Art
This week during our art session, our students got creative while reinforcing their understanding of patterns. Using a variety of collage materials, they designed beautiful ABC patterns on colored papers of their choice. The activity encouraged them to think carefully about sequence, choosing three different materials and arranging them in the order A–B–C repeatedly.
The children were very engaged as they selected their colored paper first, proudly taking ownership of their work. They then chose items such as pop sickle sticks, beans, and pompoms pieces to create their ABC pattern. With focus and excitement, they glued each material in order, paying close attention to consistency and repetition.
Throughout the activity, the children developed their fine motor skills through cutting and gluing, strengthened their understanding of sequencing and pattern formation, and expressed creativity by selecting colors and materials. Furthermore, this session encouraged independence and confidence in their artistic choices. It was wonderful to see how carefully they worked and how proud they were to share their finished pieces with their classmates. Their artwork beautifully reflected their growing understanding of math concepts through art!
Gymnastics
This week’s gymnastics session was full of energy and movement! We began with a fun warm-up activity where the children walked on and jumped over musical dots, helping them get their bodies moving while developing balance and coordination. After warming up, we continued with stretching exercises to prepare their muscles and improve flexibility.
To wrap up the session, the children practiced two poses, Head to Knee and Cobra. These poses encouraged body awareness, focus, and strength while promoting relaxation and mindfulness. It was wonderful to see the children enjoying each movement with enthusiasm and confidence as they built both physical and mental wellness through play and exercise!
