Dear Parents,

We hope you had a lovely week. Our classroom was filled with active learning, thoughtful discussions, and engaging hands-on experiences that supported the children’s growing understanding of numbers, language, science concepts, and creativity. Here is a glimpse into the exciting learning that took place throughout the week.

Happy Birthday Abner!

Large Group

This week during large group time, the children focused on the numbers 12 and 13. Together, we counted aloud, located the numbers, and connected them to objects in our classroom. The children showed confidence as they participated in counting and recognizing number order.

We also revisited shapes by identifying the rectangle as a 2D shape and the cone as a 3D shape. Through discussion and observation, the children explored how flat shapes differ from solid shapes and where these forms can be seen in everyday life.

As always, revising Zoo Phonics brought great excitement. The children happily sang the sounds and acted out the animal movements. We also created time for sharing weekend stories, helping the children practice speaking clearly, listening to friends, and building social confidence.

Math

In math, the children were introduced to the concept of height measurement using measuring tape in the classroom. Each child had the opportunity to measure their own height and observe how measurement works in a practical and meaningful way. They watched carefully as the tape was placed from the floor upward and began to understand how we use tools to find out how tall something is.

As they participated, the children used simple descriptive language to talk about their height and showed interest in the measuring process. This hands-on experience supported their early understanding of measurement while strengthening observation skills and participation in a real-life math activity.

Science

During science, the children began learning about plants and the parts of a plant. Using both pictures and a real plant brought into the classroom, they were able to closely observe each part. Seeing and touching the plant allowed them to connect directly with the lesson in a meaningful way.

We discussed the roots, stem, leaves, and flower, and the children explored the plant by feeling the texture of the leaves and touching the soil. They listened carefully as each part was explained and showed curiosity as they examined the plant from different angles. This sensory experience helped deepen their understanding and made the learning more memorable.

Literacy

In literacy, the children participated in an engaging picture card activity. One by one, they selected a picture from a box, observed it carefully, and described what they saw. This activity encouraged them to think, observe details, and use words to explain their ideas clearly.

The children also practiced reading simple VC words and reviewed CV blending using the “at” word family. As they sounded out letters and blended them together, they strengthened their phonics skills and grew more confident in recognizing familiar word patterns. This combination of speaking, observing, and reading supported their overall language development in a balanced way.

Art

During art, the children practiced basic painting techniques as they prepared for future canvas work. They were guided on how to hold a paintbrush correctly, how to dip it into paint, and how to control the amount of paint while making careful brush strokes on paper.

This practice session allowed the children to become more comfortable using painting materials while developing their fine motor skills and concentration. As they worked, they showed focus and patience, learning how to handle the tools responsibly and express themselves through simple brush movements.
