Preschool and Early Pre-K

Greetings,

It’s so good to see everyone after our spring break. Hope you all had a great break; we know that the kids did. The kids came back with full energy and happiness on their faces when they saw their friends and teachers. We sure did miss them too! Don’t be surprised if you see your child making a funny face because this week’s famous song was “ Funny Face!” and the most famous book was “The color rabbit”, which is about a curious rabbit that likes to explore with colors, especially primary colors. It led the kids to explore just like the rabbit. We will be doing “what the rabbit did” (as they put it!!) during our next week’s Art day. Our message board was focused on ending sounds in words; it was just an introduction.

During our small group

On Journal Monday we have been doing story telling through different activities and we have noticed a big change in our kids’ confidence, language development and also their creativity while they shared their stories and here are some of the stories they shared.

Juliette: “The mommy have a baby and it is Pablo and this is grandma!” she actually drew a lady with a big belly and you can tell she was trying to draw a pregnant woman!

Yamlak: “The sun is going that way and friend going in the water!” He drew the sun on two papers and explained: “The sun is going that way” - to show movement!

Alexander: “Once upon a time, there was a big shark and then a person was walking and fall in the water and then the shark bit him and the person find a turtle and then he sat on him and the turtle told him not to do that. Mr. cleversonput pandol for the person!!”

Next Monday we are planning to change the cooperative game day to Tuesday. Next Monday will be math; we will be doing “Jumping on the number”.

For Weighing Tuesday we repeated the weighing activity this week to help them get more skilled and it was fun for them. This week, they explore with the same materials, which are scales and a cloth hanger, we added counting bears to make a story out of it. The bears are of different sizes so it was easy to compare them. Kids also lifted each other to see who is heavier and lighter.

Next Tuesday will be extra fun, because the Kindergarteners will be joining us for a cooperative game. We are looking forward to it!

On Habitat Wednesday we finally finished making our habitats! This week we talked about how we can make our ocean and some of the kids suggested that we could use the ocean, which we hang on the door, as our ocean habitats and everyone agreed, easy peasy!! The next step will be sticking the animals on the habitats.

Next Wednesday we will be “ mad scientists”, because we will be experimenting with a volcano!!

During Zoo-Phonics Thursday we went back to matching the flash cards with the Zoo-Phonics to refresh their beginning sound skills and at the same time help some of our friends who came back after a long break and who moved to our class. We can say it went well and we will be doing more Zoo-Phonics with different activities.

Next Thursday we will do Rhyming words. We are exposing them through our message board and we will continue doing the same activity next week.

Our specials

Art; we are finally done with our “Nighttime”. The only thing that’s left to do is just hang it on our wall. You are welcome to see it!

Music and Gymnastics: the kids were having more fun as they learnt new moves and this week they had fun as they experienced a little bit of Karate moves!!

Centers

Ethiopian center. The most fun part of going to the Ethiopian center is knowing that you will have kolo!! Kids are learning so many Amharic words and Ethiopian Culture.

Ocean center; they had so many good times in the ocean as they went to the swimming pool, made castles in the sand box and prepared food in our restaurant and served it to their teachers.

Reminder

Dear parents, we would like to invite you to our classes after the spring break. All you have to do is inform us ( via text, phone call or email) on which day you want to come and join us. It would be fun and useful for you to engage with your child in our environment and understand what we do in person. We will be glad to have you here!

We also would like to let you know that our after-school program for gymnastics with Mr. Yonas is still available if you want to sign up for your kid.

Wednesday is our Art day, please make sure your child wear their ‘Art clothes’ because we use paints and our activities get messy!

Friday is our Library day!! Don’t forget to send library folders so your child can choose a new book.

Please send your child with sunscreen and hat.

Have a wonderful weekend!!
