Dear Parents,

As we kickstart the new academic year, we’ve had an exciting first two weeks in our Early Pre-K class! Your little ones brought so much energy and curiosity as they dove into hands-on learning, creative exploration, and exciting new discoveries. From music and math to Ethiopian center, every activity was designed to ignite their imaginations while building the essentials, like fine motor skills, counting, and problem-solving. Keep reading to see all the wonderful moments that made this week unforgettable!

Large Group

This week’s large group sessions were packed with fun and learning! We focused on the color red and finding the color in the class and their clothes. During morning messages, the class had a blast spotting the 2D shape circle. Once the shape of the week was announced, they got busy finding circle shapes in the class and making the shape using pipe cleaners, which strengthened both their shape recognition and fine motor skills. In math, we introduced the number “1” through interactive games and hands-on activities.

It was a week full of teamwork, laughter, and growth and we can’t wait for more learning adventures ahead!

Math

This week, our math session was nothing short of exciting and engaging. The children were asked to pick their favorite number from 1 to 5, and what followed was a fun-filled counting activity that not only sharpened their math skills but also provided an opportunity for them to showcase their problem solving. As the children enthusiastically chose their favorite numbers, they were then tasked with counting sticks to match the number they had selected. With a little guidance, the children diligently counted the sticks, one by one, ensuring that the quantity perfectly matched the number they had chosen.

At the end of the session, it was clear that the math session had been a resounding success. Through a simple yet engaging activity, the children had embraced the world of numbers with enthusiasm and joy, setting the stage for many more math adventures to come.

Music

Children are often described as sponges, soaking up knowledge and skills from their surroundings at a rapid pace. As our music session began, the students were given the opportunity to explore an array of musical instruments, ranging from the classical flute to the vibrant shakers. The children eagerly selected their instrument of choice. The sound of laughter and enthusiasm filled the room as the children practiced diligently, fine-tuning their skills and embracing the joy of music.

The music session not only provided a platform for the children to showcase their musical abilities but also served as a reminder of the power of creativity and self-expression

Ethiopian Center

At the Ethiopian Center, the children had a colorful and engaging experience as they delved into the rich cultural heritage of Ethiopia.

The highlight of the session was the opportunity for the children to explore different Ethiopian traditional clothes, instruments, and materials. The room was filled with vibrant colors and intricate patterns, capturing the essence of Ethiopian culture. The children also had the chance to try on traditional Ethiopian garments.

But it wasn't just about dressing up - the children also got hands-on experience with traditional Ethiopian instruments. From the rhythmic beats of the kebero drum to the melodious sounds of the krar, the children were fully immersed in the music of Ethiopia.

Overall, the first session of the new academic year at the Ethiopian Center was a huge success. The children not only had a fun and engaging experience but also gained a deeper appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of Ethiopia. We look forward to more exciting sessions ahead, as we continue to explore and celebrate the diversity of our world.
