Dear Parents,
We hope you had a wonderful week. In our Early Pre-K classroom, the children continued to grow through meaningful, hands-on experiences designed to support their language development, early math skills, creativity, and understanding of the world around them. Each activity this week encouraged exploration, confidence, and joyful learning. Read on for a glimpse into our classroom weekly highlights…
Large Group
Our large group sessions focused on strengthening foundational concepts through discussion, repetition, and active participation. The children continued revising their Zoophonics sounds, confidently engaging with familiar letters and sounds through whole-group interaction. We also briefly shared weekend highlights, giving the children a chance to connect with their peers and practice expressive language in a natural, social setting.
In math-focused large group learning, we counted together from 1–20, with special emphasis on the number 16. The children practiced counting aloud, identifying numbers, and building number recognition using visuals and classroom materials. We also explored 3D shapes, focusing primarily on the sphere while introducing the cylinder as a comparison. Through observation and discussion, the children learned to identify the sphere by its round shape and began recognizing it in objects around them, supporting early geometry and spatial awareness.
Literacy
During literacy time, the children enjoyed working in their personal journals, an open-ended activity that encourages creativity, self-expression, and early writing skills. They were invited to draw freely, allowing their ideas and imaginations to guide their work. Many children created drawings inspired by their interests and daily experiences, proudly explaining their pictures to teachers and classmates.
This activity strengthened fine motor control, pencil grip, and expressive language as the children described their drawings and shared stories behind them. Journal time continues to be a meaningful routine that builds confidence, independence, and a love for creative expression!
Math
In math, we deepened our exploration of the 3D shape sphere through hands-on discovery. The children examined different types of balls, comparing sizes, textures, and weights. They eagerly held, rolled, and explored each object. This was a great opportunity for students to reinforce their understanding of what makes a shape a sphere. Their excitement and curiosity were evident as they enthusiastically participated and shared observations with one another!
Science
Science time was one of the week’s most exciting moments, as we learned about farm animals and the products they provide. Building on previous lessons about animals, the children explored how cows produce milk through a hands-on cow-milking activity. Together, we created a cow model, and each child had the opportunity to “milk” the cow themselves.
The children were incredibly eager and engaged, patiently waiting for their turn and celebrating each other’s efforts. This activity supported curiosity, fine motor skills, and real-world understanding while making learning fun and memorable. Their joy and excitement filled the classroom as they actively participated in this meaningful science experience.
Art
In art, the children expressed their creativity by making farm animal face masks of their choice. They selected the animal they wanted to create, decorated their masks, and proudly wore them once finished. The classroom quickly turned into a playful farm as the children pretended to be their chosen animals, acting out sounds and movements.
It was lovely to see the students engage their imagination, self-expression, and fine motor development while reinforcing our farm animal theme. Most importantly, it allowed the children to take ownership of their learning and celebrate their creativity in a joyful, playful way.
Happy Holiday!
