Dear Parents,

We hope your week has been wonderful! Our Early Pre-K classroom was filled with energy, curiosity, and meaningful learning moments. The children took part in a variety of activities across math, science, literacy, and art, all carefully planned to nurture their growth and development. Through hands-on exploration, play, and guided learning, they enhanced their thinking skills, fine motor coordination, communication, and problem-solving abilities. Read on to discover the highlights that made your child’s week so special!

Large Group

This week during large group time, we focused on the color white. The children explored it through pictures, classroom materials, and real-life objects. We also revisited Zoo-phonics, where they practiced identifying letters and their beginning sounds through fun movements, sounds, and visuals. During morning message time, the children practiced writing numbers from 1 to 12 and recognizing numerals. Later, we went on an exciting classroom “Color Hunt” to find white objects. The children eagerly searched the room and joyfully shared their findings with peers.

These experiences encouraged critical thinking, language growth, focus, and teamwork, and we were very glad to see the student focused and excited about this activity!

Math

This week in our math session, the children had an exciting time exploring ABC patterns using a variety of tactile materials — pompoms, popsicle sticks, and beans. The activity encouraged them to think critically and creatively as they arranged the materials in a repeating order, discovering how patterns work and how they can be extended.

Through this hands-on exploration, the children practiced sequencing, observation, and problem-solving skills while strengthening their fine motor coordination. They enjoyed touching and sorting the different textures and colors, proudly identifying and repeating their ABC pattern (pompom–popsicle stick–bean). It was wonderful to see them recognize patterns in their environment and share their creations with peers. This engaging activity deepened their understanding of patterns as well as building a strong foundation for future math learning through play and exploration.

Science

This week’s science session took us outdoors for a sensory adventure! The children explored different aromatic plants found in our school compound, discovering how each one has its own special scent. With curiosity and enthusiasm, they leaned in to smell the leaves and flowers, comparing which ones were strong, sweet, or gentle. Through this hands-on exploration, the children engaged their sense of smell while learning that plants have unique aromas that can help us recognize and identify them.

The activity encouraged observation, communication, and curiosity about nature. It was delightful to watch the children share their discoveries with one another — describing what they smelled and which scents they liked best! This simple yet meaningful outdoor experience helped nurture their scientific thinking, sensory awareness, and appreciation for the natural world around them.

Literacy

This week in our literacy session, the children continued their exciting journey with Zoo-Phonics, focusing on the letters G to K. The classroom was filled with curiosity and enthusiasm as the children explored the beginning sounds of different materials provided. Each child had the opportunity to match the Zoo-Phonics letters (g, h, I, j, k) with objects that started with the same sounds.

Through this hands-on matching activity, the children strengthened their letter recognition and phonemic awareness while connecting letters to real-world objects in a fun and meaningful way. It was wonderful to see their excitement as they proudly identified sounds and made correct matches. Activities like this build a strong foundation for early reading and language development, while also boosting confidence and concentration.

Art

This week in our art session, the children explored creativity and fine motor skills through a fun collage activity using colored yarn. Each child began by carefully selecting their favorite yarn colors, expressing their individual preferences and artistic choices. They then practiced their cutting skills by snipping the yarn into smaller pieces with seasors, an excellent exercise for hand-eye coordination and precision. Once their pieces were ready, the children eagerly used glue to stick the yarn onto their chosen paper, designing unique patterns, shapes, and imaginative creations. Some children made lines and swirls, while others formed abstract designs or familiar objects.

The classroom was filled with excitement and focus as they discovered how textures, colors, and creativity come together to make art. Through this hands-on activity, the children not only strengthened their fine motor control but also developed their planning, concentration, and self-expression. It was a joyful and meaningful experience that allowed each child to create something truly their own.
