Dear Parents,
We hope you had a wonderful week. In the Early Pre-K classroom, our students engaged in a variety of interactive and creative experiences that supported their language development, early math skills, and understanding of the world around them. Through group discussions, hands-on activities, and creative expression, the children continued to grow in confidence and curiosity. We are happy to share some highlights from our week.
Large Group
During large group time, the children revisited both 2D and 3D shapes, strengthening their ability to recognize and differentiate between them. Through guided discussion and visual examples, they explored the characteristics of these shapes and connected them to familiar objects in their environment.
As part of our daily routine, we continued revising Zoo Phonics, where the children practiced letter sounds and movements while singing along to familiar songs. We also reviewed the days of the week and discussed the weather, encouraging the children to observe and describe daily changes.
The children were also given time to share their weekend experiences, which created opportunities for meaningful conversation. These moments supported vocabulary development, listening skills, and confidence in expressing their thoughts within a group setting.
Math
In math, the children practiced counting, number identification, and early number writing. Using number flashcards displayed on the board, they counted together and identified different numbers.
They were then encouraged to come forward and attempt writing the numbers on the board. This activity supported their number recognition while also helping to develop fine motor skills and confidence in forming numbers independently.
Science
In science, we continued exploring the topic of spring through a hands-on spring garden activity. The children first went outside to observe nature, where they looked at trees, touched the bark, and explored their surroundings using their senses.
Afterward, they moved to the art room where they created their own trees using fingerprint painting. By choosing their favorite colors and using their fingerprints to form leaves, they connected their outdoor observations to a creative activity.
This experience allowed the children to explore the season in a meaningful way while encouraging observation, sensory exploration, and creativity.
Literacy
During literacy time, our class worked on their journals, where they were free to draw anything they imagined. Whether illustrating people, objects, or experiences, they expressed their ideas through pictures in a personal and creative way.
This activity supported imagination, storytelling, and fine motor development, while also allowing the children to build confidence in sharing their thoughts and ideas.
Art
In art, our students practiced their ideas for the upcoming art auction by sketching and planning their work on paper. This step allowed them to think about what they would like to create and begin organizing their ideas visually.
By working on paper first, the children were able to explore shapes, lines, and details while preparing for their final artwork. This process supported creativity, planning skills, and confidence in expressing their ideas through art.
