Dear parents,
We hope you have had a great week. In our Early Pre-K classroom, the children took part in a variety of engaging experiences that supported their early learning, creativity, and communication skills. Through interactive discussions, hands-on activities, and creative expression, they continued to gain confidence while exploring new ideas. We are delighted to share a few highlights from our week together!
Large Group
At the start of the week, large group time focused on giving the children an opportunity to talk about their weekend. This activity encouraged them to express their thoughts, listen respectfully to others, and feel more comfortable speaking in a group setting. The classroom atmosphere was lively as the children enthusiastically shared their experiences.
We also explored 2D and 3D shapes. With the help of guided conversations and observation, the children learned to identify the shapes and relate it to familiar objects in their environment. This supported their understanding by connecting classroom learning to real-life situations. They also practiced writing numbers on the board.
Additionally, we continued practicing Zoo Phonics letters, where our students reviewed letter sounds and movements through songs and actions. These enjoyable and interactive sessions helped reinforce their phonemic awareness while keeping them actively involved.
Math
This week in our math session, the children engaged in a fun and interactive counting activity that combined hands-on exploration with early numeracy skills. Each child was given a variety of materials to count carefully, encouraging them to focus, observe, and organize their thinking. After counting, they pasted the items neatly onto A4 paper, creating their own visual representations of numbers. This activity not only strengthened their counting ability but also helped develop fine motor skills and attention to detail.
To complete the task, the children practiced writing the total number of items they had counted, reinforcing the connection between quantities and written numerals. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they proudly shared their work. Through this activity, our students are building a strong foundation in math while also expressing creativity and independence. We are proud of their efforts and excited to continue supporting their learning journey!
Science
This week in our science session, the children enjoyed a wonderful outdoor learning experience as they explored the school environment. With great excitement, they observed how plants and flowers have changed during the spring season. The children noticed the bright colors, fresh leaves, and blooming flowers, and they shared their thoughts and questions about what helps plants grow so beautifully.
To extend their learning, the class took part in a simple experiment by planting green bean seeds. Together, we placed some seeds in an open area where they receive plenty of sunlight, while others were kept in a darker space. The children are eager to observe and compare how the seeds grow in different conditions, helping them understand the importance of sunlight for plant growth. We look forward to continuing this experiment and sharing the results with you as the children learn through discovery and care for their plants.
Literacy
This week in our literacy session, the children had a fun and engaging time exploring vowels and their sounds. Using our Zoo Phonics flashcards, the children were introduced to the special feature that vowels “wear hats,” while consonants do not. This visual cue made it much easier for them to quickly identify vowels among other letters. The children were excited to spot the “hat letters” and practiced saying their sounds aloud, building both their recognition and pronunciation skills in an interactive way.
Through songs, repetition, and hands-on activities with the flashcards, the children became more confident in distinguishing vowels from consonants. Many were able to independently point out vowels and recall their sounds, showing great progress in their early reading development. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and participation throughout the session, as they continue to build a strong foundation in literacy.
Art
In our art session, the children explored creativity through color and shape in a fun and engaging way. They began by painting a vibrant purple background, carefully using their brushes to cover the paper and express themselves freely. This activity not only helped them practice brush control and color recognition but also encouraged them to take pride in their work as they watched their blank pages transform into bold, colorful canvases.
Once the background was complete, the children moved on to creating a house using different shapes. They used simple forms like squares, triangles, and rectangles to build their houses, learning how shapes come together to form familiar objects. This hands-on experience supported their understanding of basic geometry while also allowing them to make creative choices in their designs. It was wonderful to see each child’s unique interpretation, and we are proud of their growing confidence and imagination.
