Dear parents,
We hope your week has been just as joyful as ours! Our little explorers in Early Pre-K had an action-packed week filled with creativity, hands-on learning, and exciting discoveries. From math and science to art and literacy, every activity sparked their curiosity while strengthening key skills like problem-solving, patterning, and more. Read on to see the unforgettable moments that made your child’s week so special!
Happy Birthday and we wish you a bright future!
Large Group
This week’s large group sessions were full of energy and learning! We explored the letter "g"—its sound and fun new words that start with it. During morning messages, the children loved searching the classroom for colors, especially brown, black, and primary colors, making our routine interactive and personal.
In math, we introduced the 3D cube and the number 7 practicing counting with seven little fingers in the air! These activities nurtured their critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills, all while making math engaging and fun.
Math
In a math session, our young learners were tasked with a special challenge: to pick their favorite materials randomly from the classroom. From colorful abacuses to cuddly Teddy Bears, the children had a blast selecting their items and getting ready for the math adventure ahead.
Once they had their materials in hand, the children were ready to embark on a counting journey. Using their chosen objects, they began to count, one by one, fostering their number identification skills and reinforcing their understanding of basic math concepts. This not only tested their knowledge of numbers but also encouraged them to think critically and problem-solve, making connections between objects and their numerical representations.
Science
In our science session, the children embarked on a journey to explore the unique characteristics of summer, which they had a blast with! Armed with flashcards featuring different elements associated with this vibrant season, the young learners enthusiastically dove into discussions and activities aimed at deepening their understanding of what summer truly entails.
One of the activities involved sorting flashcards showcasing various summer-related items such as clothes worn during the season and the appearance of big trees in full bloom. Through this hands-on exercise, the children were able to visually connect these elements to the concept of summer, fostering a more holistic understanding of the season. As the discussion unfolded, the children shared their perspectives on what summer means to them, reflecting on their experiences with the season's weather patterns, favorite activities, and cherished memories. By encouraging them to articulate their observations and preferences, we provided them with a platform to express their thoughts and engage with the topic on a personal level.
The science session served as a valuable opportunity for the children to not only learn about the distinct characteristics of summer but also to develop critical thinking skills and enhance their communication abilities.
Library
This week, in our library session, we read a story that left everyone spellbound. The story that captured their hearts and minds was titled “The Monkey Puzzle”. As they listened intently, their imaginations soared and their faces lit up with wonder and excitement.
The children were completely engrossed in the story, following every twist and turn with bated breath. The tale of a mischievous monkey on a thrilling adventure was filled with laughter, suspense, and valuable life lessons. The vibrant illustrations and engaging narrative transported them to a world where anything was possible.
After the story concluded, the children sat in a circle, buzzing with excitement. They enthusiastically shared their favorite moments, characters, and lessons learned from “The Monkey Puzzle”. Some recounted the monkey’s clever tricks.
Literacy
We are thrilled to share with you the wonderful literacy session we had with your children this week, where we took a fun and interactive approach to reinforce their learning in a creative way.
The children were instructed to find zoo animals representing letters A-M as the teacher named them randomly. This activity, based on the Zoo Phonics method, helped the children identify and remember letters in a playful way.
The children eagerly participated in the activity, enthusiastically searching for the zoo animals that matched the letters being called out. From Ally Alligator for 'A' to Gordo Gorilla for 'G', they had a blast connecting the sounds and shapes of the letters with the corresponding animals.
By incorporating movement, visual aids, and repetition, this activity not only reinforced what the children have learned but also enhanced their understanding of letter recognition and phonics skills in a playful manner. The dynamic and interactive nature of the session kept the children motivated and excited to learn, fostering a positive learning environment.
Art
In this week’s art project, the students delved into the beautiful world of seasons through their creative expressions.
Our young artists decided to create a canvas that depicted the contrasting beauty of summer and winter. With brushes in hand and minds full of imagination, the children carefully stamped the summer portion of the canvas with light green paint, representing the lush foliage of the season. This simple yet effective technique allowed them to capture the essence of summer through vibrant colors and playful strokes.
Moving on to the winter section, the children decided to take a different approach. They meticulously glued cotton onto the canvas, mimicking the soft, fluffy texture of snow. This hands-on activity not only allowed them to experiment with different materials but also encouraged them to think creatively about how to represent the chillier months of the year.
Throughout the process, our students engaged in meaningful discussions about the characteristics of each season, reflecting on the changes in weather, nature, and activities that define summer and winter. This interactive learning experience not only sparked their curiosity but also deepened their understanding of the world around them.
