Dear parents,
We hope this blog finds you well. Here in the Pre-K class, it has been another delightful week with activities centered on counting, learning letters, and exploring science and art. Every child had a great time and learned through play. Read on for some more details…
Large group
This week’s large group sessions were full of bonding, learning, and fun as usual. For free choice, we started by reading a book, which we focused on for the whole week, which is titled "The Big Green Pocket Book." To help them remember the story, we encouraged them to retell it in their own words, which the class enjoyed very much. Furthermore, we continued our routine of going through the calendar, counting the caterpillar, and rhyming words, along with different songs.
Literacy
This week in Pre-K literacy, we learned about vowel letters. In our first session, we introduced vowel letters using Zoo-Phonics and by writing everyone's name on the board. We showed them that every word contains vowel letters.
In the next session, we did an "I Spy" vowel letters worksheet. After revising with the class, we provided them with worksheets where they found and colored vowel letters. This activity gave them a clear understanding of vowel letters.
Math
This week in math, the class learned about ordering numbers. First, we started our class by singing a number song, and our students counted as high as they could. Then we split the class into two groups, and for each group, we gave them number cards from 1 to 20. Collaborating with their friends, they first put the numbers in order from 1 to 10 and then tried to arrange them all the way to 20.
In the next session, we provided them with number cutouts, and they created a collage by ordering the numbers- for some of students, up to 10 and for others, up 20.
Science
This week in science, we learned about magnetic and non-magnetic materials. In the first lesson, we discussed which materials are magnetic and which are not. Then we split the class into two groups and provided them with magnetic and non-magnetic materials to test. In the next session, we went outside with a magnetic stick, and the students explored the compound to find out which materials were magnetic and which were not.
Clay
Clay sessions are a favorite of the class, and this week was no exception! After the students sat down, they planned what they wanted to create with the clay. Once they made their plans, we gave them slime, for an interesting twist, and they started working with it with great excitement. With guidance from our clay Teacher Asnake, they created different things based on their plans. After they finished, they reflected on whether they had made what they intended, and most of them did follow their plans. In the next session, the class expressed a desire to do a group project together.
