Dear Parents,
We have had a wonderful week filled with fun and engaging activities that supported the children’s learning and social growth. It was great to see them share ideas, work together, and build friendships. We look forward to another exciting week ahead! Read on to see what we were up to…
Large Group
Our large group sessions this week were absolutely wonderful ! We began by having a friendly conversation about what the children did in the morning. This sharing time gave everyone the chance to practice their speaking and listening skills while learning more about their classmates’ experiences. Afterwards, we sang our cheerful “Hello” song, which helped set a positive tone for the day and got everyone engaged and smiling.
Next, we took attendance in a fun and interactive way — each student found their picture and placed it on the happy face chart. The children really enjoy this activity because it helps them feel included and gives them a sense of belonging to the group.
Then, we read the story All by Myself. The children were very interested and could relate to the book’s theme of independence. After reading, we had a discussion about all the things they can do on their own, such as putting on their shoes, cleaning up their toys, and washing their hands. We encouraged them to keep practicing these skills at school and at home, reminding them that trying things independently helps build confidence and responsibility.
After our discussion, we sang our “Yellow Song,” since yellow is still our weekly color. The children are becoming more familiar with this color and can easily recognize yellow objects around the classroom. To reinforce this, we played a color recognition activity where we asked the students what they saw on the whiteboard and identified which items were yellow.
Gymnastics
Our most recent gymnastics session was full of energy and excitement! We began with a warm-up activity to get our bodies ready for movement. The children followed along enthusiastically as we stretched, jumped, and did light exercises to prepare for our gymnastics practice.
After warming up, the teacher demonstrated the proper steps for safely performing a flip on the mattress. The children watched carefully, paying close attention to how to position their hands and bodies. Once they understood the steps, each student had the opportunity to practice flipping on the mattress with close supervision and encouragement from the teachers.
It was wonderful to see how excited and confident the children were as they tried the new skill. Many of them cheered for their friends, clapped, and offered words of encouragement, creating a positive and supportive atmosphere. The activity not only helped improve their balance, coordination, and strength but also taught them about teamwork, patience, and cheering for others’ success.
Literacy
Our literacy sessions this week focused on strengthening the children’s listening and speaking skills. We continued our “Find the Speaker” activity, and it was wonderful to see how much progress the children have made. Their ability to listen carefully and identify where a sound is coming from has really improved!
To make the activity even more exciting, we played a song and encouraged the children to use their ears to find where the sound was coming from. They were running around the room with big smiles, listening closely, and working together as a team to discover the source of the music. It was such a joyful moment filled with laughter, movement, and cooperation.
This playful experience helped the children build essential early literacy skills—learning to focus, listen carefully, and respond thoughtfully to what they hear. It also encouraged teamwork, communication, and shared joy in learning together.
Art
For art this week, we took our creativity outdoors! The children were so excited to put on their art smocks and get ready to paint. We used bright red paper as our base to help remind everyone of the color red. Before starting, we asked the children, “What color paper do we have?” and many proudly answered, “Red!”
Next, we introduced yellow paint and encouraged the children to dip one finger in and make dots on the red paper. They loved the sensory experience of feeling the paint and watching the bright yellow dots appear against the red background.
As they worked, we noticed that many of our students are beginning to recognize and name the colors red and yellow with growing confidence. It was wonderful to see how focused and proud they were of their artwork. This simple, joyful activity helped strengthen their color recognition, fine motor skills, and creative expression—all while having fun together.
Science
This week's science session was nothing short of amazing! Since we have been focused on the color yellow, we planned an activity related to the theme and connected it with science. The experiment involved shaving cream and red and yellow food coloring. We set up the activity in the light room, where there was a table and soft lighting. First, we gave the children shaving cream to explore its texture. After they had some time to feel and play with it, we added drops of red and yellow food coloring. The children were very excited to see the colors mix and enjoyed creating different patterns like circles and other creative designs. It was a fun and engaging sensory experiment that helped the children explore color mixing and develop their creativity.
Math
For our math session, we focused on sorting activities connected to our "Yellow Week". The children explored the compound and collected red and yellow materials. They then sorted the items according to their colors and placed them into baskets covered with red and yellow paper. This activity helped the children strengthen their color recognition, sorting, and categorizing skills while also enhancing their observation and attention to detail. They enjoyed the hands-on experience and showed great enthusiasm while finding and sorting the materials.
