Dear Parents,
We hope you are doing well! Please take a moment to read our weekly blog and enjoy the adorable pictures of your little ones in action. It’s a great way to stay connected with what we’re learning and experiencing together each week.
Large Group
In our large group session this week, we started the day by sitting together in a circle. We talked about our morning, the weather, and the days of the week. After that, we took attendance and sang our cheerful "Good Morning" song. This week’s focus was on polite words, especially “please” and “thank you”. We asked the students how they should ask when they want something, and what they should say after receiving it. They shared thoughtful and kind ideas!
Small Group
Library
In our library session, we read a fun and meaningful book called The Polite Cat. The story is about a wise cat that teaches a lion how to be polite. The lion learns that when he uses good manners, he can get what he wants more easily. It was a great reminder of how being kind and respectful can make a big difference. After reading the book, each student got the chance to choose one book to take home and enjoy. It was a wonderful session full of learning and excitement about reading!
Art
In our art session this week, we had a fun and creative time exploring the rectangle shape! We began by discussing how many sides a rectangle has and identifying its unique features. After our discussion, we headed to the art studio where students chose their favorite paint colors. Each student was given a rectangular-shaped sponge to work with. They dipped their sponges into the paint and stamped them onto paper, creating beautiful and colorful patterns. It was a joyful and engaging experience for everyone. Each student created their own unique piece of art using the rectangle shape. We’re so proud of their creativity!
Science
This week in our science session, we had a fun tasting activity to explore different flavors. We provided a variety of fruits like orange, strawberry, banana, and lemon, along with sugar and salt. The children took turns tasting each item and telling us whether it was sweet or sour. They were very curious and excited to try everything — especially the sugar! It was a fun and engaging way to learn about our sense of taste, and the students enjoyed it a lot.
Math
In our math session, we continued our exploration of the rectangle shape. We talked about its sides and how opposite sides are equal in length. The students were excited to learn more through a hands-on activity! Each child received small rectangles in different colors. They used these to decorate a large rectangle shape by sticking them carefully inside. It was wonderful to see how focused and engaged everyone was during the activity. It was a fun and creative way to understand rectangles—and the students did a great job!
Ethiopian Center
This week in our Ethiopian Center, the students had a wonderful time making the traditional Ethiopian food, Shiro. They took turns peeling and cutting onions, and then we talked about the other ingredients needed for Shiro. When we asked what we eat Shiro with, they all shouted together, "Injera!" Once the Shiro was ready, we placed the Injera on a big plate. The children washed their hands and sat down to eat together. It was a beautiful moment of sharing and togetherness. Some students even gave a bite to their friends — a special tradition called Gursha, which shows love and care. It was truly a great time filled with culture, learning, and joy!
