The Zoologists!

Dear parents,

We had a wonderful week! We would like to thank the Infants and Toddlers for inviting our group to their classroom for large group.

What did we do for small group?

This week we had lots of fun activities that the children really enjoyed.

For cooperative games this week we played a game called Find the color. For this activity, we placed different colored dots all over our large group room. And as the caregivers named a color the children had to find a dot that had the color that was named, but the trick was they had to jump like bunnies all the way to the dot. The children had a wonderful time helping each other find the colored dots that were named.

During our science activity, we talked to the children about where different animals live and how we classify them into two basic groups, the group being wild and domestic animals. After that, we told the children the meaning of the two classifications, that domestic animals mean animals that we can keep in our houses as pets, and wild animals were animals that live in the jungle. When we finished our introduction, we placed a printout of different animals on the floor and two clear boxes a little farther from where the pictures were placed.

On one of the clear boxes, we put a picture of a barn to represent a house and on the other; we put a picture of a forest. Following that one by one, the children chose a picture of an animal then placed it in the clear box where they thought the animal lived.

And for Maths class, we worked on a measuring activity. We used empty tissue boxes. During our activity, one child stood still, and the other children placed the tissue boxes one on top of the other until it reached the height of their friend. And then they counted how many boxes it took to measure their friend.
