Dear Parents,
We hope this message finds you well and that you're having a wonderful week! As we head into the next two weeks, we wanted to take a moment to share some exciting updates from our recent sessions. It’s been a fun and creative time for the students.
This blog will cover the activities we've been doing in class. We hope you’ll enjoy reading about the creativity and teamwork that your children have been engaging in! We look forward to sharing all the wonderful progress and accomplishments from these past weeks.
Large Group Time:
Over the past two weeks, we started each large group session with a warm and friendly “Good Morning” routine. The children greeted each other and shared how their morning had been, including anything special they did before coming to class. This daily ritual helped promote social skills and verbal expression.
We sang the “Good Morning” song together, which the children really enjoy and are becoming more confident participating in. We also took attendance in a fun and engaging way, encouraging children to recognize their own and their friends’ names.
A highlight during large group time was singing “Who Took the Cookie from the Cookie Jar?” The children absolutely loved it! They enthusiastically joined in, laughing and guessing who had the cookie. This song not only brought joy and excitement but also helped build listening skills, turn-taking, and name recognition.
Additionally, we read the book “I Can Do It by Myself”. This story was a great tool to introduce the theme of independence. After reading, we discussed the different ways children can try to do things on their own—like putting on shoes or feeding themselves—which helped boost their confidence and self-help skills.
Small Group
Gymnastics:
During small group time, we focused on a gymnastics activity that was held outside. The activity involved moving to the rhythm of music while performing different movements at the "music door" station. This playful setup helped children strengthen both fine and gross motor skills, while also improving their coordination between vision and body movement.
The children were full of energy and excitement when the activity was introduced. They were eager to participate, follow the music, and try each movement. This activity encouraged physical development, balance, and coordination in a fun and active way. It was a joy to see their growing confidence as they practiced moving their bodies in different ways.
Literacy
Our recent literacy session was full of fun, energy, and meaningful learning. The students were actively engaged and showed great enthusiasm throughout the activity. Although we had done this activity a while ago, revisiting it brought a renewed sense of excitement and purpose. We began by revising earlier sessions, particularly focusing on the “Finding the Speaker” exercise. This activity is not only enjoyable but also incredibly effective in strengthening our learners’ listening and comprehension skills.
We were thrilled to see how much progress the children have made since the last time. Many of them demonstrated improved concentration and the ability to identify the speaker quickly and accurately. Michael, in particular, stood out—he managed to locate the speaker several times with impressive consistency, which pleasantly surprised and delighted us.
It was also wonderful to witness the increased confidence in our students. They listened more attentively, collaborated respectfully, and supported one another during the session. These improvements reflect how consistent practice and a fun, supportive environment can help children grow in both skills and self-assurance. The session reinforced the importance of interactive learning, and we’re excited to continue building on this progress in the coming weeks.
Art
In our recent art session, we explored the fun and creativity of mixing colors using brushes. Before we began, each student put on their art smock to keep their clothes clean and get ready for the exciting activity ahead. The atmosphere was filled with curiosity and energy.
Our art teacher, Mr. Asnake, started the session by showing the primary colors and asking the students to name them. This helped reinforce color recognition and vocabulary. One by one, the students took turns choosing their brushes and dipping them into the vibrant paints.
As the session progressed, the students began mixing colors . It was a joyful moment of experimentation and learning.
The most wonderful part was seeing each student freely express themselves. Some painted flowers, others created a line, or abstract designs. There was no right or wrong—just creativity flowing from imagination to paper. The classroom was filled with smiles and laughter as students proudly shared their artwork with their peers.
Little Library Explorers
In our cozy library corner this week, our toddlers had a delightful time exploring stories together. Each child eagerly took turns choosing a favorite book from the shelf. Once they had their books, some read quietly on their own, while others huddled in small groups, pointing at colorful pictures and sharing ideas. Laughter filled the room as tiny hands turned pages and little voices chatted excitedly about the stories. At the end, every child proudly chose a book to take home, extending the joy of reading beyond our library corner.
Math- Color Matching Magic
This week, our toddlers embarked on a vibrant and playful journey into the world of colors! Our math activity focused on color identification and color matching—two foundational skills that light up both the mind and the heart.
We prepared for the activity using six bright and cheerful boxes, each laminated with one of our target colors: red, yellow, green, pink, blue, and orange. Alongside them, we placed a separate box filled with a delightful mix of colorful toys, blocks, and materials. Every item in this box represented one of those six colors, turning it into a treasure trove of exploration and discovery.
After our large group session indoors, we stepped outside into the fresh air for the main activity. The excitement in our children’s eyes was simply contagious—they were ready to dive in!
Taking turns one by one, each child came up to the front and began by naming the colors on the six boxes. This was a great way to refresh their memory and reinforce vocabulary. Then came the fun part: picking an item from the mixed box, identifying its color, and matching it to the correct color box. For example, if a child picked a pink toy, they had to place it into the pink box. It was simple, hands-on, and wonderfully engaging!
The results were heartening. Most of our students quickly and confidently identified and matched the colors, showing great progress and understanding. A few of our little learners faced slight challenges with color recognition or matching, but with gentle guidance and encouragement, they were right back on track.
This activity wasn’t just fun—it was a valuable stepping stone in their developmental journey. Through it, the activity helps our toddlers to make color recognition and naming, sorting and categorization skills, hand-eye coordination, attention span and focus, and also confidence in making independent choices.
Watching our children learn through play—laughing, thinking, and growing—is a daily reminder of how magical early learning can be. We’re so proud of their progress and can't wait for the next adventure!
