Dear parents,

We hope this blog finds you well. In the Pre-K class, our week was filled with engaging activities, including counting, learning letters, and exploring science and art. Every child had a great time and learned through play! Read on for some more details…

Large group

This week our large group sessions were lively and educational! For free choice time, we started by reading a book, which we focused on throughout the whole week, titled "A day at the beach." To help engage the students more with the story, some days we had them retell the story in their words, which everyone enjoyed!

We also followed our routines of counting the caterpillar, going through the calendar, reading rhyming words, along with different songs.

Literacy

This week in literacy, our class traced vowel letters. This topic continued from last week, and we continued exploring it this week to help reinforce their understanding. After tracing, we had an exciting session where we hunted for vowel letters. The class went outside, and after we hid them in the grassy area, the students went on a hunt for the vowels! Once they found them, they named each one. This was an active and playful way for students to work on their letter recognition.

Math

This week in math, we learned about number sequences by identifying a missing number. In our first session, we provided them with a worksheet where they cut and pasted missing numbers in a sequence. The missing numbers were between 1 and 10, and after counting the missing numbers they found, they cut and pasted them onto the worksheet.

In the next session, we went outside, drew lines with chalk, and wrote down various numbers. The students jumped on the numbers, and when they reached a missing number, they called it out. This approach with a mix of worksheets and physical activities helped our students deepen their understanding in a memorable way.

Science

This week for science, our class learned about sand. Since the school's sandbox is available for work time, our students were very interested, and they often talked about it. Based on student interest, we brought this idea into our science learning sessions.

On the first day, we discussed what sand is, how it feels, and where we can find it, along with everything related to sand. Then, in the following sessions, we took our students outside to feel, explore, and observe everything we had discussed in class. They really enjoyed experiencing the sand. We also talked to them while they explored with their hands and feet, which brought them a lot of excitement! Our students are now planning what they want to explore related to sand for next week's science sessions.

Art

This week in our art session, we focused on coloring with the vowel letters. Since the class has been learning about the vowel letters, we wanted to incorporate them into our art session as well. We went to the art room, where the students colored pictures using the colors associated with the vowel letters. This helps them recognize the letters and colors at the same time and also aids them in creating color patterns! They had a blast with this activity and were so proud of their creations.
