Dear Family,

We hope you had a wonderful week! Our kindergarteners surely did; they were learning, creating, and exploring with so much excitement. We can’t wait to welcome you all tomorrow for Family Day, where our little explorers will proudly show you everything they’ve been working on!

Large Group

Large Group time; always the most cheerful part of our day! We started, as always, by setting the date, sharing how our weekends went, singing our good morning songs, and reviewing our daily concepts. This week we added an exciting Pick and Stick activity that everyone loved… Each child took turns picking ending sounds and sticking it beside the written word. Our book of the week was “Curious George’s First Day of School”, and it quickly became everyone’s favorite! We read it so many times that our children could retell the story on their own, and we even had one of them read it to the class in perfect order; just like a real storyteller.

Literacy

This week in literacy, we focused on ending sounds; a big step in our CVC word journey! During our first session, our children spun our CVC word spinners, read each word, wrote it down and circled the last sound. In our second session, we practiced identifying ending sounds using a fun picture/word worksheet. By looking at the images or reading the first two letters and sounding out the words, our children wrote the missing last letters with growing confidence.

Math

Math was all about tally marks this week and what a fun discovery it was! We began by introducing the idea of tallying and how it helps us count quickly and easily. Then, our children got to explore and practice: they picked materials from around the classroom; blocks, abacuses, and other materials. They then grouped them, and recorded their tallies on white paper inside their writing boards. The excitement grew as they started comparing which group had more or less. Some even challenged each other to see who could count and tally the fastest!

Science

Our scientists were bursting with excitement this week; their bean plants are finally growing tall and strong! After weeks of watering and watching, we could see big leaves now. During our first session, we discussed the parts of a plant using a real one we explored together…root, stem, leaf, and flower. Then came the fun: a cut and paste activity where our children put together the parts of a plant in the order they thought was right. Some plants were upside down, some were very tall and all of them were perfect examples of creative thinking and observation.

Art

Art this week was connected beautifully to our science explorations! We began our session outside, observing real plants around our school garden. Our children looked closely at the roots, stems, leaves, and flowers noticing colors, shapes, and textures. Then, we collected a few fallen flowers, stems, and leaves and headed back to the art room. Using construction paper, glue, and their natural findings, they created their very own Plant Parts Sticking Art. They even drew the roots beneath the soil line to complete their artwork. Each piece turned out different and wonderful.
