Dear Family,

We hope you had a wonderful week! Our kindergartners have been full of energy, stories, and curiosity after Family Day. This week was all about expressing feelings, practicing writing, and exploring more of our growing world; from tally marks to soil experiments and garden digging! Let’s take a peek at how our week bloomed….

Large Group

We began the week with a fun reflection on Family Day! Using emojis drawn on the board (happy, sad, and confused) our children checked the box that matched how they felt and shared their reasons. It opened such sweet and thoughtful conversations! Of course, we continued our daily large group routines: setting the date, singing songs, and talking about our day. Our weekly story was Little Blue Truck, which we read throughout the week until our children could retell the story in the right sequence and even read aloud to each other.

“I was confused cause my dad wasn’t there” -Liyat

“I was happy because Dibo came with me” -Leul

“I’m happy my dad and mom and my brother” -Samuel

Literacy

This week’s focus was handwriting and word formation! During our first session, our children practiced tracing CVC words sounding them out, tracing, and then rewriting them independently. The next session introduced sentence writing, helping them learn spacing between words and how to form short sentences. With a little more practice, they’ll soon be confident writers!

“I also want to trace the letters I don’t want words” -Liyat

“I am tracing” -Yemariam

“See Phi, I finished fast like Leul” -Ismael

“Write write” -Nai

Math

Our mathematicians continued working with tally marks. First, they completed a fun worksheet counting and matching tally marks with the right numbers. Later, they practiced on the board, picking number cards, drawing tallies, and finally working independently on paper to make groups of five. It was a wonderful hands on way to strengthen their counting and grouping skills!

“My paper is full you see, I did tallies everywhere” -Leul

“I even do tally at home with my dad, he knows tally marks” -Liyat

“I am finish” -Betselot

Science

Building on our plant studies, this week we explored types of soil! We compared sandy soil and loamy soil by scooping samples into cups with holes at the bottom and pouring water to see which held moisture. Our children were amazed to see how loamy soil stayed wet longer, realizing why it’s perfect for planting! For our second session, we went outside by the garden to dig and prepare the soil for next week’s bean and lettuce planting. They were proud little gardeners, working hard and joyfully as they got their hands dirty.

“Look, the soil water is a lot” -Samuel

“If we plant our beans in the sand it will die it won’t grow” -Leul

“But in Dubai there’s a beach and it’s always wet it’s not dry” -Liyat

“You count the sand yeah?” -Ismael

“This is soil, and shadow” -Yemariam

Art

In our art session this week, our children enjoyed a fun and skill building cut and paste activity. We gathered in the art room and talked about what scissors are used for before getting started. Each child chose colorful papers, practiced their cutting skills, and created wonderful collages by gluing their cutouts onto new sheets. Our children showed great focus and creativity, and we could see how much their scissor grip and control have improved. It was a joyful session filled with color, concentration, and proud smiles all around!

“To cut things like cardboards” -Liyat

“To cut papers” -Samuel

“I make yellow, blue, red….” -Nai

“Look Phi, this looks like a rhombus” -Leul

“I only cut the blue one” -Ismael

“I cut cut okay” -Yemariam

“Look” -Betselot

Library

Our library time was cozy and calm this week. We held it in our library room, where our children read quietly, shared stories with friends, and chose a new book to take home. Before leaving, they proudly signed their names on our classroom booklist, becoming responsible readers one signature at a time!

“My signature is always the same yeah a big person?” -Leul

“I always draw when I sign it’s me okay with a pink dress” -Liyat

“I am sign” -Yemariam

“I want this book” -Betselot

“Happy book” -Nai
