Dear Family,
What a wonderful week it has been in our Kindergarten world! Week 7 was filled with joyful songs, number games, new discoveries, and a very special hands on science project; planting beans! Each day our children continued to learn, explore, and grow together, showing us how much progress they’ve made in both their learning and routines. Let’s take a look at all the exciting things we did this week….
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Yemariam and Betselot!
Large Group
Our large group time is always the heartbeat of our day; it’s where we set the date, sing songs together, review our activities, and practice how things are done. This week, besides our usual letters and counting review, our children worked on ordering numbers from 10–20 on the board and practiced missing vowel activities by sticking vowels onto words. It was exciting to see how much they enjoyed the challenge while encouraging each other along the way.
“Actually, I can do this so fast because it’s so easy” -Liyat
“I want turn too” -Ismael
“What’s next? After 20?” -Samuel
“I want to do more” -Yemariam
Literacy
This week’s literacy focus was all about the five special letters of the alphabet; the vowels. In our first session, our children explored each vowel, taking turns to pick a letter, say its sound, or identify the one called out by the teacher. This helped them really connect with these important letters in a playful way. For the second session, we took our learning outside by the magnet house, where they practiced writing, tracing, and filling in missing vowels on their papers. Seeing them so engaged outdoors made the activity extra fun and meaningful!
“Why we not saying a? Why we saying A?” -Liyat
“This is O this is E this is U” -Betselot
“No, it’s o, e, u” -Ismael
“E is letter name and e is letter sound that’s why okay Ismael” -Leul
Math
Our math sessions this week were all about number sequencing from 1–20. In the first session, our children worked on ordering numbers from 1–10, and in the second session, they practiced sequencing numbers from 10–20; something we’ve been preparing for during large group sessions. They did an amazing job, and it was wonderful to see how confident they are becoming with number order. These activities also help strengthen their logical thinking and attention to detail.
“11, 12, 13………” -Nai
“I did it fast you see guys but I was not here when they did 1-10 but I finish it all fast and I’m the first” -Leul
“Nai is the first” -Samuel
“I finished missye, I finish too” -Yemariam
Science
Science was extra special this week with our bean planting project! After talking in class about what plants need to grow, we went outdoors where each child planted their own bean in a clear plastic cup labeled with their picture. Taking turns, they scooped soil with shovels, placed their beans, covered them with more soil, and watered them before placing them in the sun. The excitement on their faces was priceless! In the second session, we went back outside with papers and pencils for a plant journal activity. Each child observed their cup carefully, looking for signs of sprouting, and drew what they saw as their first observation. This hands-on project is helping them understand nature while practicing patience and responsibility.
“This is my cup you see this is Ismael” -Ismael
“I want this I want to do” -Betselot
“2, 3, 4,………” -Nai (counting the seeds)
“My will grow to the sky and sky” -Samuel
“They will all grow the same okay if you come at night and water yours will grow to the sky” -Liyat
“Look mine is growing growing look” -Yemariam
Art
This week’s art built beautifully on last week’s corn shucking activity. After exploring real corn, we brought the cobs into the infants and toddlers’s mini art room, where our children used brushes and paints to transform the kernels into something colorful and creative. They carefully picked their favorite colors and painted the kernels with patience and excitement. This activity connected last week’s hands-on exploration with a new form of expression, while also strengthening fine motor skills and creativity. The results were bright, cheerful, and full of personality; just like our students!
“Mine is colorful” -Samuel
“Me and Samuel are doing the same okay” -Liyat
“I want to brush it yellow” -Ismael
“Purple, yellow, pink” -Nai
“Look my look” -Betselot
“This is for you okay” -Yemariam
Library
Our library time this week was truly peaceful and joyful. We set up two big mats with pillows outdoors by the swings, where our children stretched out under the sun with their books. They enjoyed reading quietly, sharing with friends, and choosing a new book to take home after returning their previous one. We gave them big applause and stickers for being so responsible in bringing their books back on time. Thank you, dear family, for supporting this routine; it’s teaching our children the joy of reading and responsibility in such a meaningful way.
“I bring book from my home okay “ -Samuel
“Let’s read together; read this book for me” -Leul
“Happy birthday to you……” Nai
“I will take this book and I can also read Abigail’s book at home so I will have many many books at home” -Liyat
