Dear Family,
We hope you all had an amazing week! Ours was filled with fun and learning. Week 8 has shown us just how much our children have grown, improved, and how eager they are to learn and explore even more. Let’s take a look at everything we did this week in detail, read on!
Large Group
Our large group time, as always, was full of energy and smiles! It’s the moment our children look forward to every day; when we set the date together, talk about how our weekends went, and review what’s planned for the day. We also sang our favorite songs, practiced letters, shapes, numbers, and rhyming words, and even chose outfits that matched the weather using our fun weather cards! This week, our focus was on counting and writing numbers, exploring shadows, forming CVC words, and sharing about our favorite school books and our children did it all with so much excitement and curiosity.
“The hashtags are a lot than the hearts” -Leul
“I want to do the rhyme time like boy and toy” -Liyat
“T, t” -Nai
Literacy
Literacy this week was both joyful and full of learning moments! For our first session, we played a “Missing Vowel” name game where each child received the names of everyone in class but with the vowels missing. They had to figure out and write the correct vowels in each name. This activity helped them connect vowel sounds with real words that matter to them; their friends’ names! During the second session, we turned our learning into a CVC word making challenge. Using letter cards, our children picked consonants and placed a vowel in the middle to build words like “cat,” “run,” or “fat.” It was such a fun way to bring their vowel knowledge to life, hearing, blending, and reading their own creations out loud!
“This is Samuel’s name but he’s not here” -Ismael
“I know everyone’s name but only Betselot is hard to spell” -Leul
“Liyat and Leul is the same it’s L L” -Liyat
Math
Math this week was all about hands on exploration and real world counting. For our first session, we went on a nature hunt each child got a small plastic bag and set off to collect sticks, leaves, flowers, and rocks. Once everyone returned, we sat by the snack area and turned our findings into a counting activity. They glued one item from each type on paper and wrote how many they had in total. In our second session, we took math outdoors again, this time by the monkey bar area. Each child got a paper plate, pattern blocks, and numbered clear cups. Their goal was to count out the correct number of blocks for each cup one by one. It was such a fun way to practice counting, comparing numbers, and building concentration, all while being out in the sunshine!
“I have more leaves than everyone, look I got one million leaves” -Liyat
“I have sticks” -Yemariam
“This is 19 cup” -Betselot
“I find rocks in the sand you see there’s a lot” -Ismael
Science
Science was all about shadows this week, and our children couldn’t get enough of it! We began by talking about how shadows are made what causes them, and why they change shapes depending on the light. For our first session, we turned the infants and toddlers’ tunnel into a dark room (which it already is) for a flashlight shadow experience. Working in pairs, one child held the flashlight while the other made shadow shapes on the wall using their hands, bodies, or animal figures. They switched turns, laughed, and experimented discovering how light and shadow work together. For our second science session, we took our learning outdoors to explore sun shadows. Everyone stood under the bright sun, looked down, and noticed how their own shadows followed them everywhere! We danced, waved, traced each other’s shadows using colorful chalk on the ground, and even played a game called
“shadow tag” which we are going to play often after now. It was a perfect mix of science, art, and teamwork and our children absolutely loved it!
“I love this dark room actually we can learn here everyday” -Liyat
“You see when you get closer to it it’s big and when you go far you are small like the moon” -Leul

“My hand” -Betselot
“Let’s play shadow tag everyday okay KGs” -Ismael
Art
For art this week, we turned our children into tiny photographers! We went out by the grass and began by talking about nature what it is and what things around us belong to nature, like the trees, the sky, the sun, and the flowers. After our short discussion, we encouraged our children to plan what they wanted to capture giving them space to think, explore, and choose their own view of the world. Then came the most exciting part introducing the school’s digital camera! Even though it was a bit big for their hands, that didn’t stop them one bit. Their faces lit up with curiosity and confidence as they looked through the camera’s screen, carefully finding their perfect angle before clicking their shots. They took turns patiently, shared ideas, and truly captured nature from their own unique perspective. When we showed them how to view their photos, their joy was priceless seeing what they had taken all by themselves made them proud and amazed. Next week, we’ll be decorating their own photo frames and sending their nature captures home. Don’t worry, parents you’ll get to see their incredible creativity and the world through their little lenses too!
