Dear Parents,
We hope you had a lovely week. In our Early Pre-K classroom, the children enjoyed another engaging and vibrant week filled with exploration, creativity, and meaningful hands-on experiences. Each activity was thoughtfully planned to support early mathematical understanding, strengthen cognitive skills, encourage positive social interactions, and spark their natural curiosity. We are pleased to share some of this week’s special moments with you.
Large Group
During large group time, the children focused on the numbers 13 and 14. We practiced recognizing the numbers, counting together, and identifying them in sequence. The children participated by saying the numbers aloud and connecting them to familiar classroom visuals, helping reinforce their growing number awareness.
We also explored shapes by identifying the 2D shape square and the 3D shape cone. Through guided discussion and observation, the children learned to distinguish between flat and solid shapes and talked about where these shapes can be seen in their surroundings.
As a continuation of our routine, we revised Zoo Phonics, where the children practiced letter sounds and movements with enthusiasm. On Monday, the children also had the opportunity to talk about their weekend, supporting their confidence in speaking, listening, and sharing experiences with their classmates.
Math
This week in our math session, the children took a beautiful step forward in their understanding of measurement by exploring the concepts of more and less in quantity. Through hands-on activities using blocks, counters, beads, and classroom objects, the children compared groups, counted carefully, and proudly announced which set had more and which had less. Their eyes lit up as they discovered that numbers are not just symbols, but tools that help them understand and describe the world around them.
We encouraged the children to explain their thinking: “How do you know this group has more?” These conversations helped strengthen not only their counting skills, but also their reasoning and language development. By touching, moving, and comparing real objects, they built a strong foundation for future mathematical concepts such as addition and subtraction. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they measured quantity with curiosity and joy!
Science
This week in our science session, the children became botanists as they stepped outside into our compound to explore the natural world around them. With curious eyes and gentle hands, they collected different plant parts—leaves of various shapes, tiny flowers, grass, small stems. As they searched, we discussed the names and functions of each part, helping them understand how roots, stems, leaves, and flowers all work together to help a plant grow. The outdoor exploration sparked excitement and meaningful conversations, turning our compound into a living classroom full of discovery.
After gathering their treasures, the children used their collections to create their own “plants” on A4-sized paper. Carefully arranging and sticking each piece, they designed unique plant models while thinking about where each part belongs. This hands-on activity strengthened their understanding of plant structure, encouraged creativity, and supported fine motor development through cutting and gluing. Most importantly, it allowed them to connect science with real-life experience, learning not just by listening, but by touching, observing, and creating. We are proud of how thoughtfully they explored and expressed their learning this week!
Literacy
This week in our literacy Session, the classroom transformed into a beautiful world of stories, imagination, and confident little voices. Each child was invited to choose their favorite book. Some picked colorful fairy tales, others selected animal adventures, and a few chose heartfelt family stories. With their book held proudly in their hands, they took turns standing in front of their friends to narrate the story in their own words. It was wonderful to see how each child brought their story to life, using expressive voices, gestures, and even sound effects. This activity not only strengthened their language and vocabulary skills but also helped them practice sequencing events, recalling details, and building confidence in public speaking.
Beyond literacy development, this storytelling experience nurtured important social and emotional skills. As speakers, the children learned to organize their thoughts and express themselves clearly. As listeners, they practiced patience, respect, and active listening—celebrating each other with warm applause at the end of every story. We noticed growing confidence in even our quieter students, as they felt proud to share something they personally love. Storytelling is a powerful tool that supports imagination, comprehension, and communication.
Art
In art, the children continued working with painting materials as they painted directly on their canvases. They were guided on how to hold the paintbrush properly, dip it into paint, and control the amount used while applying it to the canvas surface.
This experience allowed the children to become more confident using painting tools while strengthening their fine motor skills and concentration. As they worked, they showed care and focus while exploring brush strokes and expressing themselves through painting on canvas.
