Dear Parents,
We are excited to share our weekly classroom highlights! This week was full of joyful learning, creativity, and hands-on activities. Our students practiced AB patterns and Zoo-Phonics letters, and explored different tastes in science. Please take a few minutes to read our weekly blog and see all the wonderful learning moments. We are so proud of our students!
Large Group
In our large group sessions, we sat together in a big circle to start our day. We sang our cheerful Good Morning Song, which made everyone feel ready to learn. After that, we reviewed our Zoo-Phonics letters from A to Z and practiced the sounds together. We discussed the day’s weather and practiced saying the days of the week in order. Then, we took attendance. For our message board this week, we practiced an AB pattern. We asked, “which comes next?” using one bear, one pompom, one bear, one pompom. The students came to the board and stuck the correct item in the pattern. It went very well! Our students shared their ideas and feelings confidently. They participated and engaged beautifully. It was a delightful way to start our day!
Small Group Activities
Math
In our math session, we explored AB patterns using colorful pom poms and counting bears. First, we explained to our students what a pattern means and how patterns repeat in a certain order. We showed them an example of an AB pattern by arranging one bear, one pom pom, one bear, one pom pom. After observing the example, each child received pom poms and bears to create their own patterns. The students were excited and focused as they carefully followed the repeating order. It was wonderful to see them thinking, organizing, and building their patterns independently. One of our students even created a long AB pattern by himself without missing the order! We are so proud of all our students for their amazing work and participation.
Literacy
In our literacy session, we enjoyed a wonderful naming flashcards activity. We showed different flashcards such as apple, bird, car, ball, house, cat, and dog. The students carefully looked at each picture and told us what they saw. We also had meaningful conversations about each flashcard. The children shared their favorite animal, their favorite color, and talked about the pictures with their friends. It was lovely to see them expressing their ideas and building their vocabulary. After that, we played a small game. We mixed the cards and placed them face down. Each student chose a card, turned it over, and proudly told their friends what they got. The activity went very well, and the students truly enjoyed learning through play.
Ethiopian Center
This week in the Ethiopian Center, our students engaged in a delightful cultural play session! They explored musical instruments, traditional clothing, food-making items, and more with full enthusiasm and excitement. We even did some dancing and singing!
Science
In our science session, we explored a fun taste testing activity. We provided salt, sugar, lemon, and banana for the students to taste. Before tasting, we asked them to guess which one might be sweet and which one might be sour or salty. The students were very excited to try each item. They especially enjoyed tasting the sugar, and their facial expressions when they tasted the lemon were amazing and full of surprise! When they tasted the banana, many of them said, “sweet!” It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience. The students used their senses, shared their ideas, and had a great time exploring different tastes. We are so happy and proud of their participation!
