Dear Parents,
Happy Ethiopian New Year!
We wish you and your family a joyful and productive year ahead. This week, we enjoyed a variety of fun and engaging activities with our students. We invite you to take a moment to read about our week in our latest blog.
Large Group
Every morning, our large group time begins with all of us—teachers and students—sitting together in a big circle. We start by warmly greeting each other with a cheerful "Good morning"! It’s a simple moment that sets a positive tone for the day. We then ask our students to share what they did when they woke up. Some say, “I went to the bathroom,” others proudly say, “I brushed my teeth and washed my face.” It’s a great way to encourage speaking and build confidence while practicing daily routines. Next, we sing our Good Morning Song, which fills the room with energy and smiles. After singing, we take attendance, talk about the day of the week, and discuss the weather. Everything flows smoothly, and it's a wonderful way to build community and help our students feel ready and excited for the day ahead!
Small Group
Art
In our art session, we explored nature through a fun Nature Collage activity. We began by showing the students different natural items such as rocks, sticks, grass, flowers, and leaves. The children enjoyed identifying each item and saying their names out loud. After the discussion, we went to our art studio, where the students received paper, glue, and brushes. They then picked their favorite natural materials and carefully stuck them onto their paper to create their own nature collages. It was a fun and creative session! All the students were focused, engaged, and truly enjoyed the activity.
Gymnastics
In our gymnastics session, we focused on balancing activities. We started with some body stretches to warm up our muscles. Then, we had fun playing Musical Dots, which helped us move and get ready for the main activity. After that, each student had a chance to practice balancing. They walked carefully and focused on keeping their balance. Everyone did a great job and had lots of fun!
Math
In our math session, students created special number cards for their parents to celebrate the Ethiopian New Year 2018. They chose their favorite paint colors, dipped number stamps into the paint, and stamped "2018" onto white paper. To make their cards more festive, they added glitter for an extra sparkle! It was a fun and creative activity that helped students connect math with art. We hope parents enjoy the beautiful cards their children made with love.
Science
In this week’s science session, we explored the world of textures through a fun hands-on activity! We provided different materials such as rocks, cotton, grass, wood, and both hot and cold water. Using their hands and feet, students took turns feeling each item and experiencing the different textures. Afterwards, we asked them to describe what they felt and identify which items were soft, hard, hot, or cold. It was a fun and engaging way for students to learn through touch, and they enjoyed discovering how different things feel. A great session full of curiosity and excitement!
