Dear Family,

We hope you all had an amazing week. Our week in Kindergarten was full of excitement, curiosity, and hands-on learning! From revising letters and exploring new 2D shapes to discovering the fascinating world of magnets, our children were busy sharpening their skills while having fun. Whether writing in sand, coloring arrows, or chasing magnetic treasures outdoors, each activity encouraged creativity, confidence, and joyful discovery. Read on for some more details…

Large Group

This week in our large group sessions, we spent time revising the letters we had learned last week. On different days, our children took turns tracing these letters on our big white classroom board; a fun and interactive way to practice while boosting their confidence in writing. Later in the week, we also introduced two new 2D shapes: trapezoid and rhombus. Our children were excited to explore these new shapes, adding them to their growing knowledge of geometry. It was wonderful to see their curiosity as they pointed out similarities and differences compared to the shapes they already knew.

“Trapezoid is a sleepy square ” -Leul

“I get 3 times to trace” -Ismael

“Shapes shapes” -Nai

Literacy

Our literacy sessions this week were interactive and exciting! For the first activity, we brought trays of sand outdoors by the white and green boards and invited each child to practice writing the letters they have learned so far. The texture of the sand made it extra fun, as they even went beyond the letters to write their very own names.

For the second activity, we worked on a matching worksheet. On one side were the letters we’ve already learned, and on the other side were pictures beginning with those sounds. Our students had a great time drawing connections and showing off their sound recognition skills.

“Look at my hand it’s sand and I write on my hand” -Samuel

“This c (k) is for kite?” -Ismael

“I can write my name on the sand and erase it and write again” -Leul

Math

In math this week, we focused on strengthening number writing skills. In our first session, our children practiced tracing numbers 1–10 on worksheets, which helped them with both recognition and proper formation. For the next session, we took the fun outdoors to the infants and toddlers compound. With chalk in hand, our children practiced writing numbers on the ground, turning math into an active and playful experience.

“7 is Ronaldo” -Ismael

“I write 21 see 2 and 1” -Samuel

“1 2 3 4 5……..” -Nai

“I want to write with the same colors like this” -Liyat

Science

Science this week was all about exploring the magic of magnets! In our first session, our children used magnet wands to sort and attract colorful magnetic coins. They followed a color matching activity, which made the experience both playful and organized. Afterwards, we gathered for a group discussion about the two poles of a magnet and how they can either attract or repel each other. With great curiosity, our children tried it out themselves, discovering that same poles push away while opposite poles pull together. Their excitement as they witnessed this in action was wonderful to see! In our second session, we took the learning outdoors for a magnet hunt. Our children explored the area, testing their wands on different objects to see what was magnetic. They were thrilled to discover that items like the whiteboard, nails, keys, and even chair legs attracted their magnets. The joy of finding magnetic treasures made the activity both educational and fun.

“North North push South South also push” -Samuel

“Boy girl yes also like up and down…when it’s up and up it pushes” -Leul

“Your key is magnet” -Samuel

Art

For art this week, our children worked on a coloring activity with arrows, which encouraged them to carefully follow directions while practicing their coloring skills. Each arrow had a matching color, and our children focused on filling them in correctly, paying attention to both detail and neatness. We took this activity outdoors by the Zen Den, which made it even more enjoyable. The fresh air and relaxed setting gave our children a chance to concentrate while still having fun. They truly enjoyed their time, and it was wonderful to see them combining creativity with direction following.

“But I want to sleep and color this” -Liyat

“Orange is down okay” -Yi Chen

“I finished everything and am correct yeah? It was so easy” -Leul

Journal

This week, we began our journal journey by decorating the cover page with rock crayons. Our children were introduced to both their brand new journals and the unique crayons at the same time, which made the activity extra exciting. They were so happy to personalize their books, expressing their thoughts and ideas about how they wanted to present themselves on the front cover. It was a wonderful first step into making their journals truly their own.
