Vibrant December Fun in Early Pre K!
Dear Parents,
It’s been another wonderful week in our Early Pre-K class! The children were busy exploring new topics, engaging in hands-on activities, and enjoying their time together. From creative art projects to building foundational skills in literacy and math, each day was filled with excitement and learning.
We’re so proud of their progress and the enthusiasm they bring to everything they do. Read on to discover some highlights from the week and see what your little ones have been up to!
Happy Birthday Shishani
Large group
This week in early Pre-K, our large group activities were filled with excitement and learning! The children explored the hardworking letter O, discovering it makes two sounds and practicing words that begin with it. We focused on the number 15, counting objects and identifying the number. Our exploration of 3D shapes introduced us to the cone, where the children observed how it can both roll and stand. During our morning message, we discussed weekend activities, talked about animals that live on farms, and practiced counting boys and girls in the classroom, comparing which group was greater or smaller. It’s been a week of discovery and growth for our little learners!
Math
This week in math, the children had an exciting hands-on session exploring measurement! Using cubes, they measured various objects like books, markers, and even themselves. They carefully counted how many cubes long each item was. Measuring themselves brought lots of giggles and curiosity as they compared their own lengths in cubes with their friends. The activity sparked thoughtful questions and joyful engagement, making it a truly fun and memorable session!
Literacy
In this week’s literacy session, the children had a wonderful time diving into Zoo-Phonics and exploring the sounds each letter makes! The teacher placed eight flashcards on the floor and invited the children, one at a time, to identify a sound and demonstrate it to their friends, building both confidence and phonetic skills. They also enjoyed a fun memory game, where the teacher flipped over cards and challenged the children to remember where specific sounds were located. The activity was filled with laughter and excitement as they practiced their phonics and sharpened their memory skills. It was an engaging and rewarding session for all!
Science
In this week’s science session, the children had an engaging discussion about farm animals! Together, we explored which animals live on a farm, the sounds they make, and the types of food they eat. The children enthusiastically named various animals and examined pictures to observe how they look, comparing which ones are big or small. This activity sparked curiosity and joy as the children shared their thoughts and learned more about the fascinating world of farm animals!
Library
During our library session this week, we enjoyed the story ‘Down by the Barn’, which beautifully tied into our science theme on farm animals. The story followed a wagon driver traveling through the farm, introducing various animals and their babies along the way. The children were captivated as they explored the names of farm animals and their young. They were especially excited when, at the end of the story, all the baby animals gathered in the barn, and a school bus arrived to drop off children for a visit. The session was filled with curiosity, laughter, and connections to our earlier discussions, making it a delightful experience for everyone!
Art
In this week’s art session, we had a creative activity inspired by our shape of the week: the cone! The children made their very own cone-shaped hats, starting by choosing their favorite colors for the hat. They then used materials like glitter, colorful paper, and pom-poms to decorate their hats, adding their unique touch to each creation. The room was filled with excitement and concentration as they worked on their designs, and their faces lit up with pride when they saw their finished hats. It was a joyful and hands-on way to bring learning and creativity together!
Gymnastics
Our week of gymnastics sessions was a huge success, and most importantly, the students had a fantastic time. They learned new skills, including side-walking on musical dots and practicing back support standing while raising one leg at a time vertically. These activities helped improve their flexibility, balance, and strength.
We look forward to our next session!
