Building Foundations For Fun and Learning!

Dear parents,

This week in our Early Pre-K class, your little ones have been busy exploring, learning, and growing through a variety of hands-on activities! From creative art projects to building early literacy and math skills, the students have been engaged in exciting opportunities to develop their minds, bodies, and foster social connections. We’ve also been focusing on teamwork and problem-solving. Read on to see all the wonderful moments your child experienced this week!

Large group

This week during our large group time in Early Pre-K, the children dove into exciting learning experiences! We focused on the letter R, exploring its sound and expanding our vocabulary with words that begin with R. The students also had fun practicing writing the lowercase “r” on the board during our morning message time, taking turns to showcase their skills.

In math, we introduced the number 18. The children enjoyed counting 18 objects and even worked with a friend to “show” 18 fingers together, building both teamwork and counting skills at the same time. We also reviewed our 3D shapes, revisiting the sphere, cube, and pyramid, as the children recalled their unique attributes.

To round out the week, we had an engaging discussion about birds, where the children shared their knowledge about different types of birds. We also practiced counting numbers 1 through 20, reinforcing number recognition and sequence. It’s been a week full of discovery and collaboration!

Math

This week in math, we introduced an exciting new topic: graphing! The children explored sorting various objects from around the classroom, such as shapes, cubes, markers, and books. After organizing the objects into groups, they counted the items in each group and compared the totals. Together, we discussed which groups had more and which had less, building their understanding of comparison and quantity. This hands-on activity helped develop key early math skills while making learning fun and interactive! We can’t wait to see how these explorations will continue to develop.

Library

During this week’s library session, the children enjoyed listening to the story ‘Lion and Fox Working Together’, which highlighted the importance of teamwork. After the story, we had a thoughtful discussion about how working together helps us accomplish goals. The students excitedly shared moments when they worked together as friends at school, such as building with blocks or taking turns during playtime. They also talked about helping out at home as a family, like tidying up their rooms or setting the table. It was a wonderful, heartwarming opportunity for them to connect the story to their own experiences and celebrate the value of collaboration!

Art

In this week’s art session, the children had a delightful time creating their very own rabbit crafts! Using different shapes like circles and triangles, they carefully assembled and glued the pieces together to form adorable rabbits. This activity was a fantastic way to reinforce their shape knowledge while also working on their fine motor skills.

As we crafted, we tied the activity to our focus on the letter r, discussing how “rabbit” begins with “r” and practicing the sound together. The students were proud of their creations and excited to share what they had learned about rabbits and shapes. It was a fun, hands-on way to connect art, literacy, and math!

Literacy

During this week’s literacy session, the children had a wonderful opportunity to express themselves through their journals. They explored their ideas and emotions, using drawings and colors to bring their thoughts to life. It was heartwarming to see their creativity shine as they illustrated stories, favorite moments, or simply the things they love.

Afterward, the students eagerly shared their journal entries with each other, explaining their drawings and ideas. This activity not only encouraged creativity and self-expression but also fostered communication and confidence as they celebrated each other’s work. It was a joyful and inspiring session!

Science

This week our little learners embarked on an exciting journey to discover the wonderful world of birds. With colorful flash cards as our guide, we delved into the fascinating realm of avian creatures, learning their names and identifying their unique features.

Our tiny bird enthusiasts were introduced to some feathered friends, from the majestic Eagle to the adorable Sparrow. Through interactive activities and engaging discussions, the children honed their observation skills and expanded their vocabulary.

Moreover, using visual aid such as photographs, the students were able to recognize the diverse shapes, sizes, and colors of different bird species, fostering a deeper understanding of the natural world around them. From the Flamingo to the busy Hummingbird, each bird sparked joy and wonder in the eyes of our young scientists.

Cooperative game

This week, we had a blast playing the classic game of Musical Chairs, which encouraged teamwork and collaboration on top of gross motor skill development.

As the music played, the children moved around the chairs, working together to ensure that everyone had a chance to participate and enjoy the game. Of course, there were moments of excitement and suspense as the music stopped and students scrambled to find a chair. But through it all, the emphasis was on having fun and working together as a team on top of learning important lessons about cooperation and teamwork along the way.

Gymnastics

In our gymnastics session this week, the students participated in an engaging activity that involved rolling over on a mattress while holding a musical dot on their heads with the help of their hands. Not only did this activity bring joy and laughter to the students, but it also provided numerous benefits to the development of their gross and fine motor skills.

Moreover, rolling over on a mattress requires the use of various muscle groups, including the core muscles, shoulders, and legs. This movement helped to improve strength, coordination, and balance.
