Dear parents,
We hope you had a great week. In our Early Pre-K classroom, the children had another exciting and enjoyable week filled with discovery, creativity, and engaging hands-on activities. Throughout the week, they explored new ideas and participated in experiences that encouraged learning in fun and meaningful ways.
Each activity was carefully designed to build early math skills, support cognitive development, promote positive social interactions, and nurture the children’s natural curiosity. We are happy to share some of the memorable highlights from our week with you!
Large group
During our large group session this week, the children had a wonderful time learning and reviewing several important concepts together. We introduced the number 18, and the children practiced recognizing and counting it through engaging discussions and activities. Many of them enjoyed showing the number with their fingers and counting objects together as a class.
The children also reviewed Zoo Phonics, enthusiastically practicing the sounds and movements of the letters they have been learning. In addition, we explored the shape. The children observed how these shapes look and talked about objects around us that have similar shapes. It was a joyful session filled with participation, movement, and shared learning.
Math
During our math session, the children had a wonderful time practicing numbers 11 to 20 through a playful hopscotch activity. The numbers were written on the floor, and each child took turns jumping from one square to another while calling out the number they landed on. This exciting game helped the children recognize and remember the numbers in a fun and active way.
As they hopped along the number path, the children practiced counting, number identification, and coordination. Many of them showed great confidence as they called out each number clearly while jumping from 11 all the way to 20. Activities like this make learning math enjoyable while also supporting physical movement and concentration.
It was lovely to see the children encouraging one another and celebrating each jump. Through games like number hopscotch, we continue to build strong early math skills while keeping learning joyful and engaging for everyone.
Science
During our science session this week, the children explored the difference between sunlight and shade through a simple and exciting outdoor experience. They took turns lying down in a sunny area and then in a shaded spot to feel how each place was different. The children quickly noticed that the ground and their bodies felt much warmer in the sun and cooler in the shade.
This hands-on activity helped the children understand how sunlight gives warmth and how shade can keep us cool. They shared their observations with their friends and talked about where they felt more comfortable. This was a wonderful way for the children to learn about sunlight through direct experience while enjoying time outside together.
Literacy
During our literacy session this week, the children practiced building simple CVC (consonant–vowel–consonant) words from the “-og” word family. Together, we explored how changing the first letter can create new words. The children had fun sounding out and reading words such as cog, fog, hog, and log, carefully blending each sound to form the full word.
This activity helped strengthen the children’s early reading and phonics skills as they practiced recognizing letter sounds and blending them together. Many of the children enjoyed discovering how one word pattern can make several different words. Seeing their excitement and growing confidence as they read and created new words with their classmates was truly a delight.
Art
During our art session this week, the children expressed their creativity by drawing their favorite flowers on canvas. This activity was connected to our recent science lesson where the children learned about plants and their basic parts, such as the roots, stem, leaves, and flowers. Using different colors and shapes, the children carefully created beautiful flower drawings while remembering what they learned in science.
It was wonderful to see each child’s unique ideas come to life on their canvas. Some children drew bright, colorful petals while others added stems and leaves to show the different parts of a plant. This activity helped the children connect art with science while encouraging creativity, observation, and self-expression.
