Celebrating Our 100-Day Milestone: Week 21st at Kindergarten!
Dear Family, we hope you all had as amazing a week as we did. As we rapidly approached our 100th day of the school year, this week was nothing but fun and memorable. We’ve been working away on a plethora of activities that incorporate the theme of the 100th day of the school year. Let's take you through what we’ve been up to...
Large Group
Our large group sessions are always a highlight of our classroom's daily routine, filled with fun, engagement, and excitement. In addition to reviewing dates, words, and letters, we use this time to discuss our daily activities and preview what's to come. This week, our large group was dedicated entirely to celebrating our 100-day milestone. We counted our caterpillars, got moving with our favorite song "Count to 100" by Jack Hartman, and explored the concept of finding 100 ways to make 100. We even delved into the fascinating world of the butterfly life cycle. It has been an incredible 100 days of school, made all the more special by the enthusiasm and energy of our amazing children.
Literacy
This week in our literacy class, we embarked on an exciting journey to explore the world of antonyms. While our children were familiar with the concept of opposites, the term "antonym" was new to them. We began with an engaging large group discussion, inviting the children to share the opposite words they already knew. To build on this foundation, we designed two activities to deepen their understanding of antonyms. First, we played a lively picture matching game, where the children had to find the opposite image to pair with each one they saw. This hands-on approach allowed them to visually grasp the concept of opposites. Our second activity took their learning to the next level, incorporating reading practice. The children were tasked with reading a word and then finding its corresponding opposite from the other side of the page. This integrated activity not only sharpened their reading skills but also solidified their ability to identify antonyms.
Math
This week in math, we kicked things off with a lively group counting activity focused on our classroom caterpillars. Since we've reached the 100-day milestone of the school year, we decided to commemorate this achievement by creating a tally chart for the number 100. The children demonstrated their mastery of tally marks, enthusiastically tallying up to 100 in our large group discussion. Building on this success, we then challenged the children with a more advanced activity - the "100 Ways to Make 100" worksheet. This engaging exercise required them to find 100 different ways to arrive at the number 100, starting with the equation 99+1. The children tackled this task with determination, sharpening their addition skills and developing a deeper understanding of counting forward and backward.
Science
As we are celebrating our 100-day school milestone, our science lessons took an exciting turn towards the natural world. Building on our daily caterpillar counting activities, we decided to delve deeper into the incredible transformation that these creatures undergo - the life cycle of the butterfly. Our young scientists were positively captivated by this topic, eager to learn more about the stages and processes that lead to the emergence of a beautiful butterfly. We began with an engaging group discussion, guiding the children through the fascinating metamorphosis that caterpillars experience. To further cement their understanding, we designed a hands-on activity that had the children's full attention. Each child received a paper depicting the butterfly life cycle, with the various stages listed separately. Their task was to carefully cut out the pieces and arrange them in the correct order, recreating the complete metamorphosis sequence.
Art
This week in art, we continued to celebrate our 100-day milestone in a spectacular way. In preparation for our special celebration on Monday, we organized a thrilling t-shirt painting activity that had our children beaming with excitement. A huge thank you to all our parents for providing the white plain t-shirts, which served as the perfect canvas for our young artists. We set up an outdoor painting station, where the children took turns spraying a mixture of water and food coloring onto their t-shirts using spray bottles. As they worked together, laughter and giggles filled the air, creating a joyful atmosphere that fueled their creativity. Each child's imagination ran wild as they designed their own unique masterpiece, experimenting with different colors and techniques. The end result was a stunning collection of vibrant, one-of-a-kind t-shirts that showcased their artistic talents. This engaging activity not only celebrated our 100-day milestone but also fostered creativity, teamwork, and self-expression.
Gymnastics
This week, our gymnastics class embarked on an exciting new activity: practicing jumping rope. The children were absolutely thrilled to learn the art of jumping rope, both individually and in groups, and they thoroughly enjoyed their inaugural practice session. In fact, they had such an amazing time that it will undoubtedly be a memorable experience for their first-ever practice!
