Dear Parents,
We’ve had such a fun and amazing two weeks with your children! It’s been a joy watching them explore, learn, and grow together. Thank you for your continued support – we’re looking forward to more exciting moments ahead!
We also want to wish you all a very Happy Easter if your family celebrates it, and for those who don’t, enjoy the long weekend! We look forward to seeing all of you back on Tuesday (April 22).
Large group
During large group time, we started with our cheerful Good Morning song. The children greeted their friends and teachers by waving their hands and smiling brightly. We continued with fun action songs like Baby Shark and The Wheels on the Bus, which the children really enjoyed! Next, we did our attendance. Each child took turns sticking their picture onto the happy face chart by themselves. It was heartwarming to see how proud they were—and even more special when they clapped their hands to celebrate their friends. To end our large group time, we read “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”. The children listened attentively and were engaged in the story, showing growing interest in books and shared storytelling.
Ball Transfer Game
Here in our infants class, we played a fun and engaging ball transfer game using a scarf! First, we showed the children how to transfer the ball using the scarf to carry the ball. Then, we divided them into two groups. Each pair of children held the ends of a scarf, and we placed a ball in the middle of it. Together, the children carefully moved while holding the scarf, balancing the ball as they walked. Their goal was to transfer the ball and place it into a basket. The children were excited and focused, and it was a great activity for teamwork and coordination.
Gymnastics
During our gymnastics session, we practiced doing handstands using a mattress set up outside. Before starting, we introduced the activity to the children and demonstrated how to place their hands on the floor and their legs up on the mattress for support. The children were very happy and excited to try it themselves. They showed great enthusiasm and enjoyed exploring movement in a fun and safe way, and we look forward to seeing their skills continue to develop!
Literacy and language
In our literacy and language activity, we did a fun letter-hunting game using rice. First, we filled a sensory bin with rice and hid different letters inside. Then, the children began searching through the rice to find the letters. They were very engaged and excited during the activity. Some children were able to recognize and name all the letters they found, while others were still learning to identify them, but they understood that what they found were letters. Overall, it was a great way to support letter recognition through play and sensory exploration.
Science: Milk and Oil Experiment
For our science activity, we explored how milk, food coloring, and oil interact in a fun and colorful experiment! First, we prepared small bowls of milk and added different food coloring shades to them. Then, we poured some oil into clear containers or plates. One by one, the children took their colored milk and carefully added it into the oil. As the colors entered the oil, the children observed how the liquids didn't mix right away and created beautiful, swirling patterns. They were very focused as they watched the reaction and started to gently mix the liquids. The children were excited to see how the colors moved and changed, and they asked curious questions throughout the activity.
Library
During our library session, the children were given the opportunity to choose their favorite books from the bookshelf. They eagerly browsed through the selection and each child picked a book that caught their interest. After choosing, they found a comfortable spot in the library area to sit and explore their books quietly. The atmosphere was calm and focused, as the children flipped through the pages, looked at the pictures, and some even tried to read familiar words. It was a lovely moment of independent reading and personal choice. At the end of the session, we all helped clean up by returning the books to the shelf. To close the activity, we gathered together and read one story as a group. The children listened attentively and enjoyed sharing this final moment of the session together.
Math
Over the past two weeks, our math activity focused on counting using the abacus. The children were introduced to the abacus and given time to explore it with their hands. They enjoyed holding the abacus and moving the beads as they counted out loud. Some children counted individually with great focus, while others chose to count together with their friends, supporting one another and sharing their understanding. This activity helped strengthen their number recognition, one-to-one correspondence, and fine motor skills. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they became more familiar with counting and using the abacus as a tool for learning.
Ethiopian Center
During our Ethiopian Center, the infants had a wonderful time making injera! First, we mixed flour and water together to prepare the batter. Then, the children took turns making the injera one by one. They were very excited and engaged throughout the activity, showing curiosity and joy as they experienced this special part of Ethiopian culture.
