Dear Parents, We hope you had a wonderful week. Our classroom was filled with meaningful learning experiences designed to strengthen early numeracy, language development, scientific understanding, and creative expression. The children engaged in thoughtful discussions, hands-on exploration, and collaborative activities that supported both academic growth and confidence. We are pleased to share a look at our week together.
Happy Birthday Mukundi & Yoaid
Large Group
During our large group sessions, we focused on counting and recognizing the numbers 14 and 15. The children practiced saying the numbers in sequence, identifying them visually, and connecting them to counting activities within the classroom. This continued practice supported number recognition and reinforced their understanding of numerical order.
We also explored shapes by identifying the 2D shape triangle and the 3D shape cylinder. Through guided discussion and visual examples, the children examined the characteristics of each shape and observed how flat and solid shapes differ from one another.
As part of our routine, we reviewed Zoo Phonics, practicing letter sounds and corresponding movements to strengthen phonemic awareness. On Monday, the children were given the opportunity to share about their weekend experiences, which supported vocabulary development, expressive language, and confidence in communicating their thoughts within a group setting.
Math
In math, the children explored weight measurement using a balancing scale. After being introduced to how the scale works, they searched around the classroom for one heavier object and one lighter object. Each child had the opportunity to place their chosen items on the scale and observe which side moved downward.
This hands-on investigation helped them understand the concepts of heavier and lighter in a concrete way. By making predictions and observing results, the children strengthened their reasoning skills and developed a clearer understanding through real-life experience.
Science
During science, we expanded our learning about plants by exploring what plants need to grow. After previously learning about the parts of a plant, we discussed the importance of soil, water, and sunlight in helping plants survive and grow.
To make the lesson more meaningful, we went outside and worked with a real plant. The children observed the soil, touched the plant, and saw how water is given to support growth. This sensory experience deepened their understanding and allowed them to connect the concept to something tangible and real.
Literacy
In literacy, the children selected storybooks of their choice and were encouraged to create and expand their own versions of the stories. This activity supported imagination, sentence formation, and expressive language skills. As they shared their ideas, they practiced organizing their thoughts and building confidence in storytelling.
We also continued practicing VC words from the “ag” word family. The children blended sounds and read simple words, strengthening their phonics foundation and pattern recognition skills. Their continued practice is helping build fluency and confidence in early reading.
Art
This week marked an exciting step in art as the children began painting on their actual canvases. After previous practice sessions, they applied their understanding of brush control and paint use directly onto the canvas surface.
Working on the canvas allowed them to experience painting in a new way while continuing to develop fine motor control and concentration. The children approached the activity with enthusiasm and focus as they brought their ideas to life through color and brush strokes.
