Dear Parents,
We hope your week has been wonderful. In our Early Pre-K classroom, our students had another lively, enriching week filled with discovery, imagination, and purposeful hands-on learning. Every activity was carefully designed to nurture early math concepts, build cognitive development, promote healthy social interactions, and inspire their natural sense of curiosity. We are excited to share some of the memorable highlights from this week with you.
Large group
During our large group session this week, the children enthusiastically reviewed their Zoo Phonics sounds and actions. They eagerly connected each letter sound with the matching animal movement, which helps strengthen their phonemic awareness in a fun and active way. It was wonderful to see their confidence as they remembered the sounds and performed the actions together as a class.
We also explored the 3D shapes, focusing on the cylinder and the cube. The children observed their differences by touching and describing them, noticing that a cylinder can roll while a cube has flat faces and corners. Through discussion and real-life examples, they began identifying these shapes in objects around them, helping to build a strong foundation in early math concepts.
On Monday, we enjoyed a special sharing time where the children talked about their weekend experiences. Each child had the opportunity to speak in front of their friends, practicing their communication skills and building confidence. It was a joy to hear their stories and see how proud they were to share their memories with the class.
Math
This week in our math session, the classroom was filled with energy and excitement as the children enjoyed playing Number Hopscotch from 1 to 20. The colorful numbers were arranged on the floor, and one by one, the children hopped forward while confidently calling out each number they landed on. What may have looked like simple play was actually a powerful learning experience. As they jumped, balanced, and counted aloud, the children were strengthening their number recognition skills, improving their sequencing from 1–20, and building coordination and focus at the same time.
It was wonderful to see their confidence grow with each turn. Some children carefully searched for the next correct number before hopping, while others challenged themselves to move faster once they felt secure. Through this playful activity, they were not only identifying numbers but also understanding order, practicing turn-taking, and encouraging one another. Learning through movement helps children remember concepts more deeply. We are so proud of their enthusiasm and progress!
Science
This week during our science session, the children became gardeners as they planted green bean seeds in their own individual cups. With great excitement, each child carefully filled their cup with soil, gently placed their seed inside, and covered it up before giving it a small drink of water. This hands-on activity helped reinforce everything we have been discussing about plants: how they grow, what they need to survive, and the different parts of a plant. Seeing their curiosity come alive as they handled the seeds made the learning experience meaningful and memorable.
Throughout the activity, the children eagerly shared what plants need to grow: sunlight, water, air, and soil, and made predictions about how long it would take for their seeds to sprout. By planting the seeds themselves, they were able to connect our classroom discussions to real-life experience. Over the coming days, they will observe changes, practice patience, and learn responsibility as they care for their plants. We are proud of their enthusiasm and can’t wait to watch their green bean plants grow alongside their understanding of science!
Literacy
This week in our literacy session, the class chose the beloved story The Jungle Book to explore together. As we read the story aloud, the children listened carefully to the adventures and became familiar with the different jungle animals and their unique personalities. The story sparked wonderful conversations about the setting, the characters, and the sounds and movements of the animals. It was beautiful to see how engaged they were, eagerly predicting what might happen next and sharing their favorite parts of the story.
To deepen their understanding, the children participated in a fun dramatic play activity where they pretended to be different animals from the story. Some moved like playful monkeys, others roared like strong tigers, and a few slithered like snakes across the “jungle” classroom. Through this imaginative role-play, they strengthened their comprehension skills, built confidence in expressing themselves, and developed creativity while bringing the story to life. This hands-on experience helped them connect emotionally with the characters and made literacy learning joyful and memorable.
Art
This week in our art session, the children explored the beautiful theme of family by creating their very own family trees. Using their favorite colors, each child carefully painted their hands and pressed them onto chart paper to form the branches and leaves of their tree. The excitement in the room was wonderful to see as they proudly chose colors that best represented their personalities. Through hand printing, they not only expressed creativity but also strengthened their fine motor skills and sensory awareness.
As they worked, we had meaningful conversations about family members and the special roles they play in our lives. Each handprint symbolized love, connection, and belonging. The children were eager to share stories about their parents, siblings, and extended family, which helped build confidence and language development. This activity beautifully blended art, emotional expression, and social learning, reminding us all that family is the root from which children grow. It was truly wonderful to witness their thoughtful work and we can’t wait for you to see their colorful creations!
