Dear parents,
We’ve had another exciting and busy week in our Pre-K classroom, filled with hands-on learning, creativity, and joyful moments. The children have been exploring new concepts, sharing their thoughts during group discussions, and building important skills through fun activities.
From discovering the unique features of the hexagonal prism to practicing rhyming words, comparing numbers, and creating beautiful art with eggshells, every day has been an adventure. There’s also a growing buzz of excitement as we look forward to the upcoming football match, which has sparked lively conversations among the students. We’re so proud of all the enthusiasm and teamwork we’ve seen this week and can’t wait to share more with you!
Large group
This week during large group, the children have been actively engaged in a variety of fun and educational activities. We continued our exploration of shapes, focusing on the hexagonal prism. The children enjoyed identifying its unique features and comparing it to other shapes we’ve learned about in the past.
For our rhyming word practice, we had a great time finding words that rhyme with rows. The students came up with words like hose, lose, and mose, and they were excited to hear how the ending sounds matched.
Our morning discussions have been full of energy, as the children eagerly shared stories about their weekends. We also practiced comparing numbers on the board, where the students circled the greater number — an activity they really enjoyed and are becoming more confident with.
Adding to the excitement, there has been a lot of buzz about the upcoming football match next week! The students are looking forward to it, and we’ve been having lively discussions about the game, the teams, and their favorite players.
Math
Since this month is the last month of the school year, in math we want to focus on what the students missed and revisit comparing numbers to revise this concept. In the first session, we discussed and practiced together on the board. Then, the next day, we provided them with a worksheet so the students could practice more and reinforce this concept. As we said, since this is the last month of the school year, we will continue to review main math concepts.
Literacy
This week in literacy, the entire class participated in a collaborative session. We began by discussing what we have learned so far about digraphs in a large group, focusing on literacy concepts. The following day, we worked together on the board to match sounds with pictures. We placed pictures of digraphs on the floor, and students selected pictures and attached them to the board, matching them with the corresponding digraph sounds. This session was very productive; the students have learned a great deal, shown significant progress, and we are very proud of them.
Science
This week in our science session, we conducted an exciting egg experiment about bouncing eggs. In this experiment, we first gathered the cups, eggs, and vinegar. Then, the students put the eggs into the cups and filled them with vinegar. We left them overnight. The next day, the class came back to observe the experiments. We discussed the visual changes, as well as the smell and any other sensory observations they had. After that, they took the eggs out, washed off the eggshells, and checked if they would bounce. They also played with the eggs by bouncing them up and down. Some of them cracked and broke, which they found to be fun. In this experiment, they learned about the process and the cause and effect of the experiment.
Art
This week in our art session, the students had a wonderful time creating their very own egg art on canvas. We began by painting the background. Next, the children worked together to break the eggshells into small pieces — an activity they were especially excited about, as they had brought the eggshells from home.
Using glue, the students carefully arranged and stuck the shells onto their canvases, bringing their designs to life. It was a fantastic opportunity not only to practice their artistic skills but also to experience the joy of teamwork and collaboration.
