Early Preschool’s Week of Exploring New Skills!

Dear Parents,

We’re excited to share our weekly highlights with you! Take a look at our little learners’ fun activities, discoveries, and special moments from this week.

Large Group

Our Large Group sessions have been a highlight of our days. We start by greeting each other and having simple conversations about different topics, such as their favorite colors, the colors of their clothes, and what they like to eat. The topics changed from day to day, giving everyone a chance to share and listen.

We also talked about the weather by looking through the window. The children practiced saying whether it was sunny, rainy, or cloudy. We then sang our Good Morning Song, and everyone joined in happily.

After that, we talked about the days of the week. They are becoming familiar with the names of the days and are excited to participate.

We then took attendance by checking who was at school and talking about our friends who were absent. After attendance, we read a lovely book called “Why I Love My Mommy”. The children enjoyed listening to the story and happily shared, “I love my mom,” as they connected the story to their own experiences.

Finally, we gave each other high-fives to celebrate the end of our Large Group time. It was a happy and engaging time filled with talking, singing, reading, and sharing together.

Small group

Monday: Gymnastics

Our gymnastics activity focused on helping the children strengthen their gross motor skills. Before starting the main activity, we did some simple warm-up exercises to prepare our bodies and get everyone ready to move.

For the activity, we placed a mattress on the floor and used two hula hoops. The children were invited to lie down on the mat, pick up the hula hoops, and move them carefully before placing them on the chair. This encouraged the children to stretch, reach, and control their body movements while completing the steps.

The children were excited and curious to try the activity. Some children were able to follow the instructions independently, while others needed a little guidance and encouragement from the teachers. We observed that they were trying their best to complete the task and were becoming more confident with each turn. Some children repeated the activity several times because they enjoyed the challenge.

Through this activity, the children practiced. It was an active and enjoyable way for our class to practice their gross motor skills, coordination, balance, flexibility, focus, body control, and following instructions, while having fun.

Tuesday: Literacy

Our literacy session focused on developing the children’s fine motor skills, focus, coordination, teamwork, and communication. We arranged the children in pairs and gave each pair a box with pom-poms, a spoon, and cups.

The children were encouraged to work together to fill the cups with pom-poms using the spoon. They did a great job sharing the materials, helping each other, and talking with their partners while completing the activity. They carefully picked up the pom-poms with the spoon and tried their best to fill the cups.

Once the cups were full, the children took out the pom poms and repeated the activity. They were highly engaged and enjoyed doing it again and again. We observed their concentration, coordination, teamwork, and willingness to help one another throughout the activity!

Wednesday: Music

Our music and movement activity was full of dancing, movement, and happiness. The children had the opportunity to choose different songs they wanted to listen to, and they happily danced and moved along with the music.

They enjoyed expressing themselves through different movements and were excited to hear their favorite songs. We observed that the children were actively participating, smiling, and enjoying the time together. It was a fun and energetic session that encouraged movement, coordination, confidence, and self-expression.

Thursday: Science

Our science activity was a fun and colorful exploration of mixing food colors with rice. Our children had the chance to add different food colors to the rice and mix them together. They enjoyed watching the rice change color and seeing how the colors spread as they mixed.

Our children were excited to touch, mix, and explore the colorful rice. Through this hands-on activity, they practiced observing changes, exploring colors, making simple predictions, and using their senses. They also developed their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, focus, and curiosity while scooping, mixing, and handling the rice.

Friday: Math

Our math session was a fun red color hunt. We placed different red-colored materials in different places around the school, and our children had the chance to search for them. They enjoyed looking around, finding the red materials, and collecting them in a box.

Through this activity, our children practiced color recognition, observation, and sorting. They also developed their focus, attention, movement, and problem-solving skills while searching for the materials. It was a fun, hands-on way to explore colors while building early math skills.

Work Time

Tuesday: Art- Finger Painting

Our art activity was a fun and creative experience for the children. We took the activity outside the classroom and prepared tables and chairs for the children to work comfortably. We provided different colors of paint and invited the children to choose the colors they liked.

The plan was to use one finger to make dots on the paper, but the children took the activity in their own creative direction. They moved their fingers in different ways and created their own patterns, shapes, and designs. Some children chose to use one color, while others enjoyed using two or more colors and mixing them together.

The children were very curious to explore the paint, check the different colors, and see what they could create. They were highly engaged throughout the activity and enjoyed expressing themselves freely. We observed their fine motor skills, creativity, focus, color exploration, and self-expression while they had fun with the painting.

Thursday: Library

This week in our library session, our students had the opportunity to choose their own books and spend time exploring and reading them. They also showed interest in our group reading and asked us to read “Why I Love My Mommy”. We read the book together, and the children listened with interest and enjoyed being part of the story.

After the group reading, we helped each child choose a book to take home. We also talked about how to handle books carefully, including how to turn the pages gently without tearing them and how to take care of the books.

The children were very engaged throughout the session. They were excited to choose their own books and tried their best to follow the instructions.

Friday: Ethiopian Center

We had a wonderful session at the Ethiopian Center, where our children had the opportunity to explore different Ethiopian cultural materials. They enjoyed looking at and learning about the different items, trying on traditional clothes, and dancing to traditional Ethiopian songs.

Our children also enjoyed engaging in pretend play and exploring different roles and cultural experiences. Through this activity, they developed their social skills, communication, creativity, confidence, and awareness of Ethiopian culture and traditions.
