Engaging Fun in Early preschool and preschool!

Dear parents,

We hope this blog finds you well! We had a delightful week in early preschool and preschool, filled with fun and educational experiences.

Happy Birthday Shi Yi

Large group

This week in our large group, we had an exciting discussion about various water animals, including crabs, octopuses, jellyfish, seahorses, and shrimp. The children were curious and eager to learn, and when we asked where these animals live, they confidently answered, “In the ocean”.

We also continued with our morning routine, singing our good morning song. We took attendance, and discussed the weather, as well as days of the week. The children participated wholeheartedly, making every activity even more special.

Small group activities:

Math

This week in our math session, we had a fantastic hands-on experience exploring an AA BB pattern with our students. To kick off the lesson, we ventured outside to the grassy area where we collected leaves and sticks.

Using these natural materials, the children created their own patterns. It was wonderful to see their creativity shine through as they arranged the leaves and sticks in various sequences. Some students even took it a step further and built little houses using the same materials, adding an imaginative twist to our math activity. It was a fun and engaging way to learn about patterns while connecting with nature.

Library

This week in our library session, we gathered for a delightful reading of "Hush - A-Bye Bunny".  This charming story takes us through the peaceful routine of a little bunny preparing for sleep. The children were captivated by the soothing narrative and beautiful illustrations! As we read together, the kids eagerly chimed in, sharing their thoughts about the bunny’s adventures and what they do before bedtime. The story sparked wonderful conversations about nighttime rituals and favorite bedtime books, creating a warm, engaging atmosphere. After our reading, the children had the chance to choose a book to take home. One thing we always appreciate about our library sessions is how each child’s personality shines through in the books they select.

Literacy

In our recent literacy session, we had an exciting adventure exploring the world of “Zoo phonics letters” from A to Z. This engaging method helped our students not only learn letter sounds but also connect those sounds with playful motions, making the learning experience both memorable and fun. Throughout the session, the students eagerly participated in activities that reinforced their understanding of phonetics. We introduced each letter with its corresponding animal sound and action, which allowed the children to engage physically and mentally.  One of the highlights was helping students identify the beginning sounds of their own names. This personal connection made the learning process even more meaningful. The joy on their faces when they recognized the sound that starts their name was truly rewarding. Once we went through each letter, we asked the children “who is this” and “what sound or sounds do they make”? They all eagerly participated and had a blast!

Clay

This week, our clay session was a vibrant journey into creativity and tactile exploration. The class dove into the world of clay, shaping it into various objects while honing their fine motor skills. Throughout the session, we encouraged the kids to experiment freely, allowing their imaginations to guide them. From intricate sculptures to simple shapes, each creation reflected their unique ideas and artistic expression. Engaging with clay also provided an opportunity for children to experience different textures, enhancing their sensory awareness. As they molded and shaped, they developed not only their hand-eye coordination but also their ability to focus and concentrate on a task. Overall, the clay session was a wonderful blend of creativity, skill development, and sensory exploration, leaving the children excited for our next artistic adventure.

Science

In our  science session, we had an exciting hands-on activity where the kids explored different textures and temperatures. We prepared various materials, including rocks, grass, cotton, and wood, for the children to feel. We also set up two containers of water—one hot and one cold. The kids eagerly used their hands and feet to test the temperatures, guessing which was which. Their joy and enthusiasm made the experience unforgettable! This activity not only sparked curiosity but also helped develop their sensory and critical thinking skills. We can’t wait for our next science adventure!

Music

This week we had an amazing music session with one of our student's parents. He came over with some musical instruments, sang different songs with the children and gave them the chance to play the instruments.
