Dear parents,

We hope this blog finds you well! This week in Pre-K was fun, engaging, and full of

exciting activities. In math, we focused on addition with 0 and on comparing smaller numbers. In literacy, we continued practicing digraph words, while the other group worked on reading CVC words.

We also enjoyed journaling, gymnastics, library visits, and science: our students’

favorite subject. We learned about the continents.

Overall, the class was fun and participated wholeheartedly. Students worked

together and independently without competition. Read on for more details…


Large Group

Our large group sessions continue to be a delight! Our students love to sit together

and sing, read books, have conversations about different topics, complete

classroom job responsibilities, and learn from each other. This session helps boost

their confidence because they are all sitting together and participating.

During the large group, we continued going over different shapes to reinforce the

learning we’ve already done.

This week’s sight words were “how, this, you, and but”. They caught on so fast and

really enjoyed the activity. These sight words help them learn more words for

reading simple books.

As always, we completed our calendar activities and caterpillar work, along with

classroom jobs. For the morning message, we connected it to the day’s activities to

give clues and help prepare the children.

Our students continue to do amazingly well, and we are very proud of all they have

achieved so far.



Literacy

This week in literacy, in the first group our focus was on strengthening students’

understanding of digraphs. During the first session, students practiced reading

words that begin with the digraphs ph, the, and qu. They worked in pairs, which

encouraged collaboration and gave them the opportunity to support one another

while building confidence in their reading skills.

In the second session, students applied their learning through a hands-on

worksheet activity. They were asked to cut and match digraphs with the correct

pictures, reinforcing their ability to recognize the sounds and connect them to

meaningful words.

For the second group in literacy, in the first session they did the same activities as

last week. They practiced the CVC words pair to pair. Then, in the second session,

they traced and rewrote the CVC words. After they finished writing, they

practiced reading the words they wrote. This helps them with both writing and

reading.



Math

This week in math, our first group focused on developing a deeper understanding of

addition by exploring the concept of adding zero. Students learned that when we

add any number to zero, the number stays the same, because zero has no value on

its own.

During our first session, we practiced this concept in an interactive way. Each

student had the opportunity to come up to the board, solve an addition problem

involving zero, and share their thinking with the class.

In our second session, we reinforced the same concept through a worksheet

activity. Students practiced solving addition problems with zero independently,

allowing them to strengthen their skills and show their understanding in a more

structured way.

In the second group, for math, they compared smaller numbers. In our first

session, they counted the number, and we wrote two different numbers for them,

one big and one small. Then, by looking at the numbers, they circled the small

number. In the second session, they colored the smaller number by comparing two

different numbers and telling which one is big and which one is small.



Social Studies

This week in social studies, our students explored the different continents and

their unique characteristics in an engaging and interactive way. During our first

session, we focused on identifying special attributes of each continent. Students

learned about the types of animals found in different regions and some key

features that make each continent unique. For example, they discovered that

Europe is known for its beautiful palaces, Asia is the most crowded continent, and

Antarctica is too cold for people to live in. They also learned that Australia is

famous for animals like kangaroos, North America is home to vast jungles, and

South America is known for its impressive mountains.

The students were very attentive and showed great interest in these discussions,

actively listening and making connections with what they already knew.

In our second session, we built on their excitement from last week’s map activity.

One group revisited the world map puzzle, strengthening their understanding of

continent locations, while the other group worked on matching continent

flashcards, reinforcing their knowledge in a fun and hands-on way.



Art

This week for art, the Pre-K class did a very exciting art project on canvas. During

our weeks in the first term, our students learned about mixing colors in science.

During our class discussion time, students decided to do the color-mixing project.

After we discussed what mixing colors are, we created the mixing colors on our

canvas using primary colors. Students used their hands to create the effect by

making lines and mixing them. It was so much fun, and they did really well.

Every Tuesday is our library day, so we will be sending a book that your child picked from our library, which will be returned after a week on library day.
