Dear parents,
Welcome to our weekly classroom update! We are excited to share some of the wonderful learning experiences and activities your children enjoyed this week. From group time to hands-on activities, the children were actively engaged, exploring, learning, and having fun together. We hope you enjoy reading about our week!
Large Group
Our large group time began with a cheerful good morning song, helping everyone start the day with positive energy. We also welcomed a new student from another class, and our children did a wonderful job introducing themselves and sharing their names.
On Monday, we explored orange materials displayed on the board and asked the children to identify the color. From Tuesday onwards, we encouraged them to recall and describe what they saw on the board, including naming the color, which helped strengthen their memory and observation skills.
We also had a daily discussion about the weather. The children looked outside through the window and door and shared their observations, describing the day as sunny, cloudy, or cold.
During attendance time, we counted the pictures together, identifying happy and sad faces and practicing number counting. This supported both their emotional awareness and early math skills.
We also talked about important social skills, such as sharing toys with friends, being gentle, and using polite words during playtime.
We ended our large group session on a happy note by giving each other high fives, creating a sense of connection and joy among the children.
Science
Our science activity this week was focused on exploring the color orange through a hands-on experience with carrots. We began by encouraging the children to connect the activity with the color orange. The children first washed their hands, practicing good hygiene. Then we showed them the boiled carrots and asked questions like, “what is this?” and “what color is this?” The children excitedly responded, “carrot!” and “orange!”.
After the discussion, the children used plastic cutters to carefully cut the soft, boiled carrots. They were very engaged and curious throughout the activity. Finally, we invited them to taste the carrots, and they really enjoyed the experience, showing excitement and interest in trying the food.
This science activity is important because it helps children explore and understand colors through real-life objects, builds their observation and thinking skills, and encourages curiosity about food and the world around them; it also supports the development of fine motor skills through cutting, promotes healthy habits like hand washing and trying nutritious foods, enhances their vocabulary as they name and describe what they see and taste, and creates a fun, sensory-rich learning experience that keeps them engaged and excited to learn.
Art
This week, our art activity took place in the art classroom, where we introduced the children to a fun and creative canvas project. We began by asking them about their favorite colors, and many of the children excitedly chose yellow.
We then asked the children which color they would like to use for the canvas background, and once again, yellow was the most popular choice. Based on their preference, we decided to use yellow as the background color for our artwork.
The children were given yellow paint and canvases, and they worked in small groups of three. Each group took turns painting the background, while the others waited patiently for their turn. This helped them practice sharing, patience, and cooperation.
Throughout the activity, the children enjoyed expressing themselves and exploring painting techniques. This week, we focused on completing the yellow background for the canvas.
Next week, we will continue working on our canvas project, where the children will engage in a color matching activity to complete their artwork.
Literacy
Our literacy activity focused on practicing cutting skills using scissors. We set up two tables on the grass area outside and brought the children out of the classroom to enjoy the activity in an open space. We began by explaining the activity and demonstrating how to safely and properly use the scissors. Each child was then given a piece of paper to practice cutting. The children were excited and highly engaged, enjoying the opportunity to explore and create by cutting the paper. Most of them did very well and showed good focus, while a few students need more practice, which we will continue to support in future sessions. Throughout the week, we provided regular opportunities for the children to practice using scissors, helping them build confidence and improve their skills.
This activity is important because it helps develop fine motor skills and strengthens the small muscles in the hands and fingers, improves hand-eye coordination and control, supports concentration and focus, and builds independence as children learn to handle tools safely; it also encourages creativity and self-expression, boosts confidence as they see their progress, and prepares them for future writing skills by improving grip and control, while also making learning fun and engaging as the children enjoy cutting and proudly sharing their work.
Gymnastics
During our gymnastics session, we began with a warm-up activity on the grass area outside to help the children prepare their bodies for movement. After the warm-up, we organized the children into a small group where four students stood together. Each group was given a paper plate and a ball, and the activity focused on passing the ball carefully from one student to another using the plate. At first, the children were a bit confused, but with guidance and practice, they quickly understood the activity and did a great job participating and enjoying the game.
This activity is important because it helps develop the children’s gross motor skills, improves their hand-eye coordination, and strengthens their balance and body control; it also encourages teamwork and cooperation as they work together to pass the ball successfully, builds their listening and following instructions skills, increases their concentration and focus, and supports their confidence as they learn a new skill and improve through practice, while also promoting physical fitness and making movement fun and engaging.
