Dear parents,
It’s been an exciting and dynamic week in our Pre-K classroom, filled with curiosity, creativity, and joyful learning. From playing and cheering for the football match to experimenting with melting ice, our young learners have been exploring a wide range of topics. Read more as we take you through the highlights of a week where every day brought something new to discover!
Large group
This week in our large group was full of energy, excitement, and a variety of meaningful discussions! The children were especially animated as they talked about the upcoming football match. It quickly became the number one topic of the week! They eagerly counted down the days and talked about how they could get ready.
Another exciting topic was the idea of doing a caterpillar art project on a canvas. The children discussed how they wanted it to look and what materials they might use. Their creative ideas showed how much ownership they are beginning to take in planning collaborative art.
We also revisited some of the 3D shapes they’ve learned about, and their memory was impressive! They confidently named shapes like cylinders and cubes. Moreover, the group had fun coming up with rhyming words for dog—they proudly came up with log, bog, and fog.
As the week continued, more and more students began talking about the upcoming Art Auction. Just like with the football match, they enjoyed counting down the days, crossing off one day at a time and building excitement as the event gets closer.
It was a dynamic week filled with conversations that built on both academic concepts and personal interests—an exciting sign of growing curiosity and connection in our classroom!
Math
This week in math, we continued revising the concept of comparing large and small numbers. Last week, the class learned to compare large numbers, and this week we focused on smaller numbers to clarify the concept for every child. As we did last week, we first discussed the topic with the class and provided them with a worksheet to help them further. In our math class, we will continue to revise some key math concepts that they have learned over the next few weeks of school.
Literacy
This week in literacy, the class was divided into three focused groups, each working on a different foundational skill based on their needs and progress.
The first group worked on identifying and sequencing letters. Using magnetic letters on the board, the children practiced recognizing each letter and placing them in alphabetical order. This hands-on activity helped reinforce their letter knowledge and supported their understanding of letter sequence.
The second group focused on vowel recognition. These students worked on a worksheet where they read simple CVC words (consonant-vowel-consonant) and filled in the missing vowel in the middle. They used picture clues to help them determine the correct word, such as identifying a picture of a “cat” and filling in the letter “a” to complete the word. This activity helped strengthen both their phonics and reading comprehension skills.
The third group concentrated on reading and writing sentences. They were given a worksheet with short sentences that had a missing CVC word. The children had to read the sentence, look at the matching picture, and write in the correct word to complete the sentence meaningfully. This activity helped build fluency, sentence structure understanding, and confidence in early writing.
Science
This week in the Pre-K class, we had so much fun with a science activity focused on ice melting! In the first session, the class discussed how ice melts and what happens if we place it in the shade versus a sunny area. In the first session, the children filled cups with water and put them in the freezer.
In the second session, when the class returned, they observed what had happened to the water. Each child took their cups from the fridge one by one to examine it. Some students placed their cups in the shade, while others put them under the sun, and then they observed which melted faster.
After that, everyone decided to place their cups in the sun and left them there until after lunch. They continued to observe how the ice melted and turned into water. At this point, they were really surprised by the whole process. Finally, when the ice turned into water, they went to the plant and used the water appropriately. Throughout this process, the students learned about the cause and effect of melting ice.
