Dear Parents,

We are very happy to celebrate the beautiful Ethiopian tradition of Demera together with you and our students. Thank you so much for joining us and spending your time with us during this special occasion. Please enjoy this week’s blog and take a moment to look through the wonderful photos of our students participating in the class time!

Large Group

This week in our large group sessions, we started by sitting together in a circle and sharing about our morning. It was a great way to connect and hear how everyone was feeling. We then sang our cheerful Good Morning songs, which got everyone smiling and ready to start the day! After singing, we talked about the weather and reviewed the days of the week—a routine the children really enjoy. Next, we took attendance and moved on to our message board, which this week focused on shapes—specifically the triangle. We explored its three sides and talked about the different colors triangles can be. The children were very engaged and participated actively. It was wonderful to see their excitement and curiosity throughout the discussion!

Small Group

Art

In our recent art session, we explored the triangle shape using colorful craft sticks. To begin, we introduced the students to the triangle by showing them examples and discussing its characteristics. Next, we provided each student with paper, glue, and sticks in different colors. The students were then guided to create their own triangle shapes by arranging and gluing the sticks onto the paper. It was a wonderful and engaging experience. The students were focused and enthusiastic throughout the activity. They followed instructions well and successfully created their triangle shapes. It was encouraging to see their creativity and concentration, and overall, the session was a great success.

Math

In our recent math session, we had a great time exploring numbers by counting different materials from our classroom. From animal toys and sticks to brushes and colorful pompoms, the students chose their favorite items and took turns counting them out loud. It was wonderful to see how excited and focused everyone was! Each child got a chance to pick something they liked and share it with the class while practicing their counting skills. The hands-on activity made learning fun and interactive, and the classroom was full of smiles and enthusiasm.

Library

Our recent library session was a delightful experience for our students! During the visit, each child had the opportunity to explore a variety of books and choose their favorites. They spent time looking through the colorful pages, engaging with the pictures, and discovering stories in their own way. It was heartwarming to see their curiosity and excitement grow as they flipped through the pages. After exploring, each student selected a book they loved the most to take home and enjoy further. It was truly a wonderful time filled with learning, imagination, and joy!

Science

In our science session, students had a blast making and exploring goop – a fascinating substance made from cornstarch, water, and food coloring. This fun and messy activity was not only enjoyable, but also a great way to learn about the science of non-Newtonian fluids. The students loved getting their hands into the goop, feeling the unique texture as it changed from a solid to a liquid and back again. They were amazed to see how it could be held like a solid one moment and then ooze through their fingers like a liquid the next! It was a wonderful hands-on experience that combined learning with play. Everyone had a great time experimenting, observing, and of course – getting a little messy!
