Two Weeks of Exploration and Achievement with the Toddlers!
Dear parents,
It’s been a wonderful, educational and lively week with the Toddlers class! We hope your week was just as great. Below are the exciting activities we enjoyed together—thank you for being part of this great journey with us! Enjoy reading about all the fun moments we shared these two weeks.
Large group
Over the past two weeks, our large group activities have been filled with learning and playful moments. We began each day by counting laminated pictures of body parts with numbers, helping the children to practice counting and recognize their own bodies. This was followed by singing the "Hello Song," creating a warm and welcoming start to each session. After attendance, we read the book "All About Me," which tied in perfectly with our theme of body parts, engaging the children in a story that was both educational and interactive. It was a wonderful time of exploration and connection, as the children learned about themselves in a hands-on way.
Science
In our recent science activity, we focused on exploring the body, nature, and the senses, specifically focusing on the eyes. We began by leaving the classroom and sitting on the mat, where the teacher explained the activity. Each child was given a plate, and then we took a walk around the school compound to observe the natural items around us. The children were excited and fully engaged as they picked up materials from the ground, like leaves, flowers, and small stones, and placed them in their plates. Once we returned to the mat, the children took turns sticking their collected items onto paper with glue, creating their own nature collage. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to connect with nature, enhance their observation skills, and enjoy a tactile learning experience.
Literacy
Our literacy sessions over the past two weeks were engaging and educational. We started by cutting the children's pictures in half during the first week and mixed them all together. The children had to find their own pictures and match the pieces, which kept them focused and excited, even though it was their first time doing this type of activity. In the second week, we took it a step further by cutting the pictures into four parts to add a bit of a challenge. We also asked the children to fix their friends' pictures, which they loved. Some even challenged themselves further, showcasing their growing skills in focus, hand-eye coordination, and picture identification.
Gymnastics
Our gymnastics sessions were both lively and beneficial for the children, focusing on strength, balance, and focus. We began each session with warm-up activities to prepare their bodies for movement. Afterward, the children took turns holding musical dots with their feet, which was both a challenging and exciting task. This activity helped them develop stronger muscles, improve their balance, and enhance their focus, all while enjoying the process. It was a great way for them to build physical skills in a playful environment!
Art
Our art sessions were centered around the theme of body parts, helping the children explore and learn while developing their fine motor skills. In the first session, we realized the children needed more practice with cutting, so we focused on that by giving them time to practice cutting on their own. In the second session, we discussed the pictures of body parts, and with some guidance, the children cut out shapes for the eyes, nose, and mouth. Afterward, they applied glue and carefully stuck the pieces onto their paper, creating their own body part collages. This activity not only helped the children recognize body parts but also strengthened their fine motor skills, focus, and creativity, all while having fun.
Math
In our math sessions, we focused on the numbers one and two, helping the children practice counting and number recognition. During both free choice and large group time, we used different materials to make the learning experience more hands-on. The children were given the task of counting items and matching them to the correct number, either one or two. This activity not only reinforced their understanding of numbers but also provided an engaging way for them to practice counting and number association. It was a fun, interactive way to build a solid foundation in early math skills!
Ethiopian Center
During our visit to the Ethiopian Center, the children had an exciting and enriching experience as we introduced them to traditional Ethiopian musical instruments. We explored the sounds of drums, tambourines, and other instruments, and the children were eager to try them out. We also sang traditional songs and even danced together, creating a lively and joyful atmosphere. It was a fun and cultural experience that allowed the children to connect with music and traditions from another part of the world while having a lot of fun!
